Applying AIO then SG

Hey guys. Just ordered the Klasse twins from autopia-carcare and arrived next day. Great service. Anyway, I have yet to use it because of a wet spell here in Southern Cal. (I know, VERY weird).



I was wondering how to apply the AIO and SG by hand.



I know some of you say you should wet it first using Sonus Acrilic Spritz or something, but I really don't feel like buying it.





Is there a good way to apply AIO and SG using the applicators that came with it in the autopia shipping box without having the spritz? Thanks guys.

For me, the AIO was a total no brainer. Just wipe on with the pads you got and wipe off with a buffing cloth. It comes off extremely easy. I think with the SG there's all kinds of different ways people do it as far as how long to let it sit before buffing off. I apply mine with the pads you have, let it sit for about 30 minutes, then buff off. I have some Meguiars quick detail spray that I moisten the buffing cloth with a little bit that helps it buff off.
 
Best way I have found to apply SG is apply it very thin. Then wait 30-60minutes for it to dry, and remove using a damp towel followed by a dry towel.
 
AIO is easy on easy off, no problem. If it's your first coat and the paint is 4 or more years old I'd go two coats personally. Then SG very thinly, use WOWO, or better known as Wipe On Wipe Off (no waiting). If you have any streaks you can take a slightly dampened aplicator with a very little bit of SG and wipe on streak, then wipe off. Check the surface the next day and if there's any residue by then it should wipe off. Some people say you can put another coat on in 24 hours, I personally wait a couple days in between coats, either will work. Where are you at in SC, I'm going down to Santa Barbara and Thousand Oaks in a week or two and I here there's road problems.

In order to put SG on very thinly you may want to put an ounce or two in a separte container so that you can monitor how much you actually put on the car. I am planing on hitting up the craft stores and the Container store today to find small bottles with a sports bottle type lid. I think that were people get into trouble with SG is when it is applyed to thick.
 
Congratulations on buying the Klasse twins and welcome to the forums of all forums!

Don't worry about buying the Sonus Acrylic Spritz. I use it to apply the SG more smoothly, not allowing to much in one area. That's the trick with both AIO and SG, not applying to much. You can use both by hand and use foam or Sonus MF applicators. Did you get nice yellow applicators (Sonus), or white terry cloth? The Sonus work alot nicer because it asorbs more into the pad so it makes a nice light application. The trick is not using much. With the AIO use a nickle size on the applicator and do little sections at a time. With SG use a dime size each section (ex. hood, front fenders). If you have a light colored car you might not even see it applying, but you will see it when it dries. It dries real quick and that's why you do little areas (AIO). If you don't use much like I said then it's really easy to remove, but if you don't it's a pain. Same for the SG. The first time I guarntee you will put to much on your first section you will do, but don't be afraid to grab another applicator and use the excess on the car to do the rest of the section. I highly suggest MF for removing SG and AIO. DON'T USE TERRY CLOTHS! The will make swirl marks when applying pressure. Like when you wash your car do you use a 10 year old brush at the car wash or your old Mickey Mouse shirt? Concours Buffing Towel is awesome for removing SG. There's a major difference. The trick is with SG to have great shine and protection for 6 months is applying the SG and leaving it on the vehicle for 24 hrs. No lie. It allows it to cure (dry) giving it complete bonding to car. Also allow 24 hours between coats, so it can dry after removing.

I detailed my Audi in Sept. and everytime I wash it I'm so suprised after 5 months I can still see the SG. I live in NE Ohio and the weather is awful! That's the reason why my little detailing business is so busy is because of Klasse.

You can use Eagle One Wet Wipe N' Shine QD instead of Sonus Acr Spritz to prime your applicator. Use very little QD, don't get it too damp. You can reapply the QD every 3rd panel. It helps the applicator to glide on the paint. I put a very thin line of SG across my applicator.
 
Do you really leave it on for 24 hours?????



I think I left mine on for about 5 minutes before I took it off. :(

I've been doing some lab tests, so far, the evidence is that the 24 hour claim is pure BS.
 
Yes I do. It ain't bull!! What kind of lab test do you use? How long have you've been using SG? Because your wrong! I have been using it for 5 years and know others that have been using it for 10 years. Lab test!! ha ha ha! Everytime I tell somebody of my friends that detail they notice the difference.



I would use Sonus Acrylic Spritz because it's formulated for the use with AIO and SG.
 
The let sit for 24 hour instruction is to completely ( maybe over-the-top) ensure the product has bonded to the surface but perhaps more observantly, so that the product is easier to buff off. I've left it on for 1 hour, several hours, 12 hours and a full 24 hours. Since I can't observe full product bonding to the finish, I had to rely on which makes it easier to buff off without any excessive residue to try to remove ( that is assuming you put it on extra thin, so much so that you may not even see it on the paint). I concluded that by 12 hours, it's perfectly ready to be removed. I've never used an acrylic polymer QD. I have no need for one now because I top SG with wax but during the time I only had SG I applied it with a MF pad dampened with FI and removed it with a MF using FI if necessarry but more recently, just fogging it with my breath.
 
Recently I waited about 8 hours after putting it on and it came right off. I've realized how key it is to be thin.......thin thin thin......... :)
 
Most sealant mfg (Klasse SG inc) recommend a 12-24 hour cross-linking period to ensure product durabilty, of course there is an in-built safety factor of X hours in there. If you are not concerned with durability iI guess it doesn't matter

I have been using the Klasse Twins exclusively for a couple of years on my wife's 2002 CRV-EX. On May 22, 2003 I clayed and then AIO x 1 and SG x 2 using WOWO (wiped off each panel immediately after applying). On November 28, 2003 I washed and added SG x 2 using only WOWO. This car is a daily driver that she drives about 18K each year (currently has 63K) and is garaged both at home and at her office. Although the V still looked great and had a wonderful shine after every wash, broke down and clayed, AIO x 1, and SG x 2 using WOWO on November 30, 2004.



Using WOWO the SG was still looking great after 12 months. I would say the durability was just fine using WOWO. I wash the car weekly with either Turtle wax Zip car wash, Eagle One red car wash, or QEW. I usually follow up the wash with QuikShine QD.



Sometimes I feel guilty about not doing more to her car until I wash it and see that it looks as good or better than mine that I play with almost daily. It is hard to beat the Klasse twins for durability, economy, ease of use using WOWO, and lack of maintenance required.
