APC wash.

I'm hoping to do a detail on the exterior of my car soon and was wondering if substituting an APC for the regular wash shampoo would be safe for the finish. It hasn't been washed since before winter and dirt and junk has piled on it quite nicely.

i wouldn't use straight APC to wash, it will streak and dry up quickly...

I know. What I meant by that was instead of mixing shampoo into a bucket of water, I'd mix APC in a bucket of water....or maybe add it to the shampoo? I basically looking for something stronger than regular shampoo to wash the gunk off the car. And I've used diluted apc on front bumpers, mirrors, behind wheels, etc., to help get rid of bugs and tar and such without any adverse effects, but I've never done it on a whole car.

just use regular car wash or you can use dawn. make sure you clean your mitt regularly and you might have to wash it a few times if its that bad

Some APCs are better than others for this, but IMO/IME all APCs lack lubricity, and can thus lead to wash-induced marring.
