I'm wondering if ill have problems with a polymer sealant after SG.....or should I just use 3M paste wax 39526

I'm concerned with durability due to being outside all day 365 days of the year.

Thanks

I'm sure you can do that, but why top a sealant with a sealant? If you want more durability just add subsequent coats of SG.

it seems pointless to put #20 on top of AIO/SG.... just layer up more than one coat of SG. #20's cleaners won't strip much of the SG, but you're going to see the same, if not better durability with using many coats of SG (between 3 and 5 is ideal).

If you want that extra bit of durability over that, I'd go with P21S/S100 for a topper, in lieu of the 3M paste wax.

Also keep in mind that you aren't going to do one detail and be set for a year.. the most this combo will last you I'd estimate between 6 to 8 months.

I read that SG doesnt last very long. Thats why i thought about Megs #20 (my neighbor has a lot of the megs #20 so it would be free). I am really just looking for a system that keeps the shine for more than a month. I usually do what I do now 3-4 times a year (although in the texas heat I usually need a coat of wax every month). So 6-8 months would be Awesome.

So you guys think adding coats of SG will add durability. I was told by some to use a top coat of wax, or something to add more depth because of my red paint.

So...

DACP

AIO

3 coats of SG

Is this enough for 12 year old single stage red paint with minor oxidation and swirls?

Not sure where you heard that one. SG ranks pretty high up on the durability scale. I've got 3 coats on from this summer and after 4 to 5 months it's still going strong. I plan to strip and reapply 3-4 coats of SG for the winter.

I'd say SG will last longer than #20.

Yeah, some of us (like YoSteve and myself) can get nearly a YEAR out of multiple coats of SG. If you REALLY want to increase its durability, top 5 coats of SG with Collinite paste wax, but generally, SG is about as durable as it gets.

I'd agree with 'mpauly'

The durability of most carnauba waxes (50% left after 30 days, 25% after 60 days and 15% after 90 days) That’s why I use a resin type finish on my daily driver (Florida sun) the wax finish (P21S) just gives a final zing to the finish (plus I enjoy detailing cars)

I've not heard anybody here complain about SG's durability. I have a year's experience with another polymer sealant, and the durability really pleases me.

BTW, you might want to get hold of The Wax Test from geekysteve (send him a PM); it has lots of comparative analysis about durability, as well as shine, depth, and other factors.

Does DACP remove all swirls...or will i possibly need to use something between it and the AIO?

Sorry for all the questions. Ive been sitting at my computer for a couple hours every day for a week reading and searching on this site. I love it. Thanks Autopia
