Anyone using Frog Tape?

Saw this stuff when I was picking up some 3M blue tape the other day @ the hardware store. Seemed a little thicker, but wasn't sure if it was as good/better then the old stand by. Anyone into this stuff? And what color? Give me some feedback......

What are you using it for?

If just to protect the exterior trim while buffing, why spend that kind of money for a tape that you will pull off in a few hours or a day.

I use the HyStic production tape for that, it takes the UV's, the heat and is strong. A sleeve of 12 rolls of 3/4 inch from Autobody Tool Mart runs me about $24.

I do buy the 3M blue and green for some paint work, when I need clean edges, etc, but for the paper masker machine, etc, just the HyStic.

The Frog may have some real advantages, but to this point have not seen a great enough advantage to spend the extra bucks.

Frog Tape is complete and utter junk.... I'd steer clear. I tried it and had serious problems getting it to adhere properly, so I threw the rest of the roll in the trash.

Exactly, why spend the money on painters tape when its not really needed. Hystik masking tape is great. I used to get that from Ardex all the time. Now I found a local store the sell another no name brand masking tape at a good price.

Yeah, Barry, all one has to do is look at the "spec" of a tape.

Is it able to handle the UV exporsure, can it take high heat (185F+) for a few days.

The only concern in using one tape for one thing and another for the application/adherence to another brand is that the adhesive is compatiable. The old American tape did not like to be attached to the 3M, and vs versa. Different adhesives, didn't like to work with one or the other.

All of this sort of issues are speced when one takes the time do a bit of easy these days to research.

I am on your team on this one.

I believe the Frog tape has an added chemical to keep paint from weeping under so you get a straight edge. I used it and had problems when wiping after I made a pass. Seems like I'd get residue streaking and hard to remove.

Agreed with the glue sticking, I bought it because it was on sale at Home-depot. Going back to the good ol'e blue.

Frog tape leaves residue which is a pita to wipe off.

I really dont care for the Frog Tape. I think the blue sticks better, even when painting. My wife and I were painting our bathroom, and got the frog tape, and it didn't stick worth anything. Ran out and got more blue. I kept the frog tape for detailing, and it doesn't stick. I am using up the green just so it doesn't go to waste, but will never get it again.

Yup, pretty much just for taping off trim while buffing. I've been using and having great luck with 3M blue tape and will just continue using it. I'll just keep the"if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality.

I just noticed this Frog tape and didn't know really anything about it so I thought I'd ask Autopia to get their input. It was more expensive then 3M Blue, so it's good to know that extra cost, doesn't equate to better quality. At least for what most detailers needs are for that matter. Seems pretty unanimous from what everyone is alluding to.

Not that I have much experience in detailing but I've been using the no-name dollar store blue tape. I don't leave it on there for more than a few hours though. It doesn't stick as well as the 3M blue, but the price is right and I just use it for trim, etc.
