just wondering if anyone had serious opposition to pressure washing the car. if so, why? is this evidence based or just thru experience. how bout standing say 4-5 feet away and letting the spray spread? i've noticed alot of drivethru touchless carwashes have nice pressure nozzles that blast the water.

the wheels seem to clean very well with a good pressure wash?

Laynlow was a pressure wash guy. Doing a search under his name should provide some useful infor.

I believe it would be a good addition to your tools.

I used pressure washers on farm vehicles for as long as I can remember, but then, it sure beats scrubbing cattle sh** off with your hands. I also used them on my old car too.

At the time I didn't know what swirls where, so I can't tell you how pressure washing affects that type of stuff, but it took the dust off of the 3 miles of gravel road to get into town.

I don't know if I'd use one on my car now. I've seen the pressure washer take off chunks of paint around small rock chips on trucks. We had a pretty industrial powered one, but still, if you get too close, that is a risk.

Maybe to spray off tires/wheel wells.

I'll use one between my weekly washings to remove any dust on the car, and get the wheel wells clean. I have a crappy 1300 psi electric at home that I use for things like that. It is more often used to clean the front and back porch along with sidewalks. If the car is dirty, I bust out the bucket and mitt.

If you are standing a fair distance from your car with a pressure washer you are 100% safe. Less pressure than a hose!

The pressure 6 inch's from the nozzle isn't the same as 3 feet away. I have an electric sprayer and if I put my hand 1 inch from the nozzle it will cut right through my skin but if I shoot at my hand from 3 feet away it's a mist that will wet my hand to the point where it is soaked.

Just don't shoot the nozzle 2 inches away from your paint and your a-ok. :up

aka common sense. ;)

I am 100% in agreement with joed1228.

I have an electric PW at 1500 psi. For the wheel wells, I blast away. Tires.....let 'em have it!

But for the paint, 45 degree angle and never closer than 12 inches.

It won't get ALL the dirt off. A film will still be there. If you want it squeaky clean, you will need a wash-mit and car wash shampoo.........But for a quick wash, you cant beat it!

I have a 3000 psi pressure washer and love it! As long as you use common sense, you will be fine!!:) Just stay away from any painted plastic as it seems to lift/peel it!!

I have a 2400 psi washer, however the washer has an atachment that controls the pressure. This way I never really worry to much when using it.

In Canada it is the only option if you even have any hope of keeping your car clean in thw winter here.

Pretty much all driveway and mitt in the summer.

Pressure washing the salt off the wheel wells and under carriage is necessary to be able to sleep at night:o

Common sense rules as mentioned.
