anyone QD a shock?

has anyone had issues armouralling or applying QD to the slider area (shiny) of a hood shock or motorcycle (or vertical door system) shock?

apparently they are all self lubricating and the seals very sensative to third party lubricants.

supposedly just cleaning the slider with a clean rag is all you are supposed to do, otherwise you risk contamination and ruining the shocks ability to hold pressure.

any horror stories or you think i have picked up on an urban legend/myth.

Seals are a rubber compound and I would think that dirt would be the worst thing for them. I would stay far away from any penetrating oils like 711 or 3in1. I cant see where any waxes would be good for them either. Best bet is to wipe it clean with a rag. Most are polished pretty well already.

I doubt there's ever been a chemical interaction failure from a wax or cleaner on fork seals. Those chemicals that are capable of doing damage are highly volatile and will be gone in seconds. Things like MEK or carbon tet for example.

But paste wax on a fork tube catches dirt nicely, which wears the seals away rather quickly. Anything sticky that can catch and hold dirt particles can lead to seal failure.

With the slider on the suspension fork on my mountain bike, after a ride I always wipe it down and wipe on a couple drops of lube, usually my chain lube since I have it handy. Relate that as you wish on how to care for the slider on your shock. I'd think a light lube would be more appropriate than a QD, but I may well be wrong and the best bet is to just keep it clean as possible.
