Anyone have or used a Hitchmate Truck Step?

I am getting a truck and was thinking that one of this might be mandatory for me to reach the whole hood when washing.

That'd be a long reach from the hitch (normally located at the ack of a truck) to the hood. :)

Go to a home improvement store and dpick up one of those 20" tall planks / steps that is aluminum, about 30" long and folds up. You'll have to have a way to reach the top of the cab anyway. I can reach the whole hood w/o leaning on the truck (Ridgeline), but the middle of the windshield and the cab are no-go's w/o the plank. I have to move it twice on each side to reach the entire area. They also make a great platform to lay down your PC when polishing.

Here's a previous thread on washing tall vehicles.

When it's too tall...

It's the hitch mate tire step not the hitch mate. ;)

My father purchased a similar one from Camping World. He uses it on his RV to clean windows. He loves it but I would go with the bench thing or a small step ladder. I use a step ladder to reach the roof of my car.

Good luck trying to do the cab roof with that. :nana:

A 4 ft step ladder works well when doing trucks.

The cab roof I just get from the bed. ;) I won't be adding a cover to this truck.

To wash the roof of my truck, I bought a 4' aluminum long folding platform from Lowes or Home Depot for about $30. Works great, especially for polishing when you need to get some leverage.

Also, I have used the telescoping wash mitt from Meguiars and it seems to do a good job without marring.

I've got one though it isn't the brand you mentioned. I've used it dozens of hours for under hood work over the years. The only draw back I could see with one is having a tire that is too narrow for the rim. It would be resting on the rim in this case and might damage it. I think mine is a "Mechanics Step" by OTC though I no longer see it on their site.
