Anyone have a PC failure?

I asked this question a while ago because I was considering importing one to the UK and could not return it for repair if it broke. The concenus was it rarely breaks during light use, say once a month for years but if you are a pro detailer using it every day then it will wear out after a while.

I believe Porter Cable UK can supply PC parts, although I'm unsure if they offer servicing/repairs as well.

My older one started to rattle and it got progressively worse until it was obvious I was abusing the machine by still using it. I had it "rebuilt" but I can't remember just what they did or what it cost. I *think* it was around $75. My newer one is now rattling, but I'm just gonna keep using it for a while and see what happens. FWIW, these are *not* being used in a commercial/shop environment.
This PC durability thing gets discussed from time to time. Basically they seem like OK tools durability-wise, but there *are* "bad" ones and even ones that aren't defective sometimes need servicing. Heh heh it's not like a Cyclo, but then it does't cost as much either.
I've often wondered how the PC holds up when only used as a sander. IMO that application (the one for which it was originally designed, BTW) wouldn't be *nearly* as hard on it (no need ofr applied pressure; the sandpaper does all the work). But then I somehow wouldn't expect most people to be sanding for hours and hours either.
