Anyone get aftermarket bulbs to upgrade stock halogens?

My BMW stock bulbs are pretty bright. I would like something that is whiter and brighter, and that runs at the same voltage so I don't fry my wires (55V)

Some choices are:

PIAA

Sylvania's

Phillips vision plus

BMWXenon - replacement halogen bulbs (bmwxenon.com)

What do u think?

I've used the Sylvania Cool Blues and Silverstars and have been pleased with both of them. In my opinion the Silverstars are a little more pricey than they should be. $50 for the pair seems to be kind of high. I bought 9006 bulbs and then modified them for my 9005 sockets. That was the only way they were worth the price. The Cool Blues are worth it at around 10 bucks per bulb though. They aren't even blue. Very white light. Much better than stock.

The PIAA bulbs burn at 51 watts, but have a 90-100 watt brightness. They are white, not the blue hue. They have them here in Toronto for about 110.00 bucks. I bought some 9006 " Toucan Industries Inc." bulbs for about 27 bucks that burn at 55watts pure white, and much better than stock.

I have an Accord btw.

When my cheap ones burn out, i'm going for the good PIAA ones!

Cheers

Looks like for the bmw the phillips are the way to go...but they are a bit brighter but no whiter. I also want that whiter look.....

PIAA are expensive......cool blues for my car are no brigher than stock....just whiter and bluer. BMW factory halogens are damn good.....

Considering I was in the same dilemma several moons ago, this is what I am looking at. Initially, I kicked around buying some PIAA Xtreme Whites for my high beams and some Super Plasmas for my fogs. However, I have changed my mind at least twice and have now settled on Eurolite Fusions for the high beams and PIAA Crystal Ions for my fogs.

From what I have seen, the Eurolite Fusions are whiter than even my HIDs. :D

I just ordered a set of Sylvania Silverstars for my F150. I got them for $15.00 each on sale. Can't wait to put them in...

I have the Philips Vision Plus on my e39. It's obviously brighter, but the whiteness stayed about the same. It cost $40 from the UK.

The BMWXenons look pretty tempting. They are expensive at $105 though...

Can you tell us where you bought the eurolite from? Is there an internet site that you suggest?:up

From what I saw about the eurolites.....they do LOOK like the xenons....most reviews rave about the way they look, not brightness. I am after brightness primarily......I tend to stay away from the bulbs that are coated blue....they limit the spectrum of light discharged

The eurolight is what i purchased from Toucan Industries inc.

They are on the web under that name.

If you want brightness, the PIAA's are the way to go.

Have you thought about spending the bucks and just going for a true HID conversion? That's the first thing I'm doing in the spring. You can get a good kit for less than 5 bills. I'm tired of monkeying around with bulbs that look like HIDs. I'm ready to go back to the real deal. I've got a couple good links to where you can get some nice HID kits somewhere. I'll have to find them for you if you are interested.

Are those HID conversion kits legal there? They are not here in Vancouver. Unless they are factory, you will get a whopping fine. I hear the fine was pretty stiff, like $500 or something, because all the ricers were doing them. The problem, I guess is that most of those kits don't have the auto-levelers, so that when there are passengers in the back seats, the beams blind everyone in front of them. I have experienced this myself, and heartily agree that most of those kits are driving hazards.

I guess they'd have to catch you first. 90% of all the stuff you add to your car probably isn't "street legal". Most of the healight bulbs out there on cars aren't street legal. Cops aren't that hard core down here in Salt Lake. It blows my mind how many cars are blatantly illegal in so many ways. Trucks that are lifted waaaaay too high, cars that are slammed waaaay too low, blue bulbs everywhere, limo tints and mirror tints, obviously illegal emmisions, etc... The list could go on for days. HIDs are the least of my worries with the cops. I can see your point about the levelers though. I never knew they had them.

I get your point about the illegal part there. Wasn't really making that point, just that it could also be a safety hazard to you, when the oncoming traffic is blinded.

Must be a US/Cdn thing again. They are pretty strict here. I have seen loads of people pulled over for:

stereo volume

window tint

illegal lifts

excessively wide tires

loud mufflers

illegal lights

I hear that (second hand, no first hand knowledge) the cops are even pulling over people with clear corners which are not factory. I guess the reasoning being that most of the "sheep" on the road are confused when they see white signal lights.

But I like those HID's too. I just want to buy a car with them already installed. Guess I had better start getting more clients, to work on getting that Lexus! :D

The xenon conversion is about a grand for my car. I don't plan to keep the bimmer for more than another year, so at this point it just doesnt make sense. i am just looking for a quick upgrade for the halogen bulbs....never thought it would be this difficult! haha

ps....in NJ today the ice storm is getting bad. If I get stuck going home again today, I might not even have the bimmer another year!! A4 here I come!

I hear you. I got stuck going out of my driveway last year, and the car is FWD! But I got winter tires this year, so it's not been a problem. And so far it's been mild.

Sounds like the quick upgrade is the way to go for you. However, I am surprised that you would go A4 instead of an Xi?

I like the Xi...but its jacked up too high! BMW jacks it up another inch and it looks more like an offroader to me. A4 preserves the sport sedan styling. Now the question will be a chipped 1.8T or 3.0.............but I think I am about a year away from that.

At one point, I thought about making the high beams and foglights all Xenon. I wanted to do mine through http://www.hids4less.com/www/index.asp However, I would have to send them the foglight housing for them to get a bulb that will fit.

I have seen some Maximas (especially 4th Gens) with Hanabi or Osram kits.

I have the 9007 Piaa Extreme White in my frontier and I am very happy with the results. The Price is a bit but it does come with a one year warranty. I got my vehicle without fogs and I am definitely going with a set of Piaas driving lights.
