Sounds like your browser may have been hijacked, Al. Run this program MajorGeeks.Com - Contacting Download Site, don't do anything else than scan your computer!! Export the results and post them and I'll try to help you. - Jesse

I agree that many times pop ups=virus of some sort. I also use Firefox, with McAffee Total Protection which I pay around $80.00 a year for. It does daily updates for new found viruses. From what I have read, if you are using Internet Explorer, that could be a reason too, since IE is not as secure of a web browser as FF.

Yeah, but sometimes even the best antivirus programs can't be updated quickly enough to stop them. There's millions of viruses on the net and they are constantly being mutated. A lot of the "hijackers" can't be picked up by virus programs, as they're really considered as viruses. The can be something like an Active X or even something that's been altered in your registry such as a mouse gesture. I haven't used IE for years... Firefox all the way!

Sounds like Spyware/Malware to me.

I use FF 2.0 with Adblock Plus and No-Script. I can't recall the last time I looked at an ad/popup - well over a year I think.

I run McAfee Anti-Virus 8.5i with with the Anti-Spyware add on. McAfee releases daily virus updates. I haven't had a virus in, well, ever.

The easiest way to protect your PC is to:

1.) Don't open/read emails from people you don't know including the attachments.

2.) Don't visit questionable web sites - from my experience most Spyware/Malware comes from these sites.

3.) Don't download/install software for your machine that is questionable.

4.) Run some kind of Anti-Virus. The free programs are ok in a pinch. I prefer enterprise level AV from McAfee.

5.) Run Adblock and No-Script to keep your browser safe.

I do these things and honestly I haven't had a virus, well, in at least 10 years - possibly ever. I can't remember having my personal PC infected. As an IT professional I have cleaned thousands of viruses and spyware off thousands of PCs.

I agree with you 100% on this. I also cannot even tell you the last time I have seen a pop-up....and now that I think about it, the last time was probably the last time I have used IE....about a year ago.

the pop-ups/ads don't come up unless i'm on this website, in anycase i'll make a few changes to see if i can eliminate them. thanks everyone...
