Anyone ever detailed their engine bay?

Man, I've been here over a year now, and read about guys waxing their door jambs- which I have not yet done (possibly this weekend). I thought that was utterly ridiculous at first.

Until last night.

I waxed everything I could in the engine compartment. Under-hood edges, firewall, shock towers, radiator support, and even the resevoir bottles, in hopes of keeping them clean longer. Having degreased & dressed all the plastic and hoses last weekend, it still didn't *POP*, and I remembered the near-useless tiny bottles of cleaner wax that are included with Mothers clay kits.

HEHE.

I get enough flack from the gf about waxing the exterior of the car- I could'nt even bring myself to tell her what I was doing all evening in the garage.

This is the best hobby ever!:bounce

Please help reaffirm my sanity and share your obssesive stories.

Got everything I will need except don't know what to use on the engine parts that are alloy or aluminum or metal.

I have P21S Total Wash and P21S Finish Restorer.

What did you use on the engine metal parts?

I used this on the whole thing:

The only thing I cover is my K&N air filter.

It left a couple traces of calcium-like buildup on some brackets, but nothind that going over it afterwards with the (Mother's Preserves) dressing didn't take care of.

If you're worried about cleaning the metal parts, I've heard foamy tire shine is great- I've yet to try it, but would wholeheartedly trust it.

I've used the P21S TAW on all kinds of things (not just automotive applications) and it's never caused any problems at all :xyxthumbs

I also use P21 Total auto wash for all the cleaning tasks on my vehicles. its safe to use anywhere on the vehicle. I use it alot for stripping off wax and polish from the finish when I want to try another product. I wont use anything else. it works great.

Wax just doesn't last long in the engine bay because of the heat. I wax the painted surfaces for a show, but I'm sure it doesn't last that long. My engine bay and underside of my hood is clear coated so it glosses up really nice. I used to use Meguiar's #20, but I haven't done that for awhile. I probably should. Anyway, I love engine detailing and waxing an engine is a really good way to get points at show I think.

I just detailed my engine bay last weekend. I clayed all of the painted surfaces with a Mother's Clay Bar, then waxed with NXT. For all of the rubber and plastic, I just washed them off with normal car soap and water, dried them, and wiped them with tire shine. Any metal surfaces...I use Mother's Mag/aluminum polish to shine them up a bit.

Two days ago, my mechanic said he liked all of the chrome under my hood. (The only chrome under the hood is my strut brace...the rest is just polished heavily with the Mother's polish.)
