DeLorean?

I have a client who has the DeLorean that was used to film the 2nd Back to the Future....I'm not even kidding. This thing is ridiculous!

Any special tips on washing and sealing this thing? I'm thinking about doing an ONR wash due to the amount of exterior wiring and what not. I thought about using Easy Off oven cleaner as well.....Kidding!!!

What would you use to seal/protect stainless steel? Thanks in advance.

My brother actually has an 81 DMC. As crazy as it sounds the best thing I have found to clean off any water spots, etching, or stains is a Mr. Clean sponge. He had a tune up done by a local mechanic and the thing sat out side one afternoon and it drizzled then got sunny again. The water spots were horrendous. I tried about everything in my arsenal that I thought would not be too aggressive and the only success I had was the Mr. Clean sponge. I have actually tried the kit mentioned above and I was not impressed. Most interesting is the kit even comes with steel wool type pad to remove any odd scratches! Not something we are used to seeing. The problem with polishing is that the brushed groves in the body are deeper then what you would find on a fridge or kitchen sink. For this reason any liquid polish is a up hill battle to fully remove from the groves while polishing. You also have to be very careful to go with the grove to prevent any scratches that don't match the brushed finish. I was also scared that if I got too aggressive with a polish the body would have an uneven shine. The Mr. Clean sponge seemed to remove the 25+ of what I would call a patina over the stainless finish. Also consider yourself lucky these things don't throw off much break dust. The million spoked wheels are a chore in themselves!

Hey, Seth. Thank you VERY much for responding. I guess I'll pick up some Mr. Clean sponges. I really appreciate the feedback.

Dave, you have no idea.....I'll snap some pics for you guys. You're going to flip.

Hey, Dave. I actually had to do two cars in a week for this client (He owns 12-14 cars). I had to do the DeLorean and an exact replica of the original Batmobile (I kid you not). I was in a time crunch due to my real job (I detail on the side as a hobbie/nice little side business). Luckily, John (Eliot Ness) was nice enough to volunteer to help me out. We spent about 14 hours on the DeLorean, and what a difference it made. I'll try to post some after pics later on.

Basically, we had to do an ONR wash, due to the Back to the Future set up on the car. After the ONR, we clayed the entire car and believe me when I say, it was FILTHY! We then rewashed it, then John cleaned the entire back portion of the car (Mr. Fusion included) while I polished the plastic end caps with Klasse AIO. The interior was cleaned with 1Z Cockpit Premium, and the leather seats got a very thorough cleaning. John thought "version one" of Zaino's Clear Seal would be a nice topper for the stainless steel, and he was spot on. The car looked incredible, and when the owner got back in town, he told me it's the best the car has ever looked. It was a very unique opportunity, and I'm glad I got the chance to do it.

I'd also like to publicly thank John for his help. I honestly couldn't have done it without him. He gave up a lot of his time and products to make this happen.

So did you end up doing the detail?

That would be the understatement of the year, Denz.

Here is what I have coming up:

Ferrari 360 Modena

Ford GT

Plymouth Prowler

Series One Shelby

Bentley Continental GT

These are from just one customer. Then I have a concours level detail on a 1965 Shelby GT350 that would absolutely blow your mind. This is best classically restored muscle car I have EVER seen. After that, I'll get to detail his 550 Maranello that will be delivered in a couple of weeks. Then I have an Escalade and a new Audi A5 to do from two different customers.

Keep in mind, this is my part-time business/hobby. I have no free time whatsoever, but hey...at least business is good.
