Anyone addicted to acquiring products?

Is anyone else here addicted to accumulating detailing products?

Right now my car has been repainted so I can't go through with swirl removal / sealing/waxing so I have just been buying products like crazy. I am afraid of running out of something so whenever I see a good deal I always buy it even if I already have the product or I buy a size much larger than I will use.

Right now I must resist the urge to buy the Pinnacle Sizzling shine kit on aBay since i already have everything the kit contains...must resist urge!

Actually.....no.

I have tried enough products to know what works and doesnt for me.....also what I prefer to use for my own reasons. I always look forward to new hyped up products though and always give a product a chance before I give it the thumbs up or down. Before you buy a product read some threads here on some pretty honest reviews (most of the time)

heh-heh-heh! I resemble that remark! :D Believe it or not, there once was a time when David refused to sell me more Autopia products (no, not because of any credit-card problems!!!). :LOL

I went through a crazy buying binge and justified it as business expense. Then I realize that all the products that I don't use added up pretty quickly and just cut into profits. I've resisted the urge because I know that my paint isn't going to suddenly get much better, so I slowed down and have been depositing all the checks and feel good about it.

Good lord, I was just thinking that. I already have enough stuff to last the rest of my life; in waxes and sealants alone, I have 2 Souv pastes, one Mother's Natural paste, 1 #20, 2 #26s, 1 Souv liquid... and I just received the Klasse twins, and placed an order with Autogeek to get a free bottle of New Souv liquid! It doesn't sound like much, until you remember that a spot the size of a quarter will do an entire quarterpanel, and two of them do the hood....

In the last month I've given away (all mostly full)1 Souv liquid (to a bud), 1 Gold Class liquid, 1 bottle of Nu Finish, 1 Zymol cleaner wax, 1 Wax Shop liquid wax, and all the little bottles of Mother's cleaner wax that come with their claybar, like 4 or 5 of them.

Really, I'm done buying product. I read about all this cool stuff, and everything I try, the cars look great. I'm going to use the Klasse on the pewter Trailblazer, and Meguiar's 7/20/26 on the Miata and the Malibu, and top the cars with the Pinnacle sisters when I want the extra POP! of a Pinnacle shine. I figure I'll be up for more product in, say, 2026.

Specifically, on July 20th, 2026....

Yup Brad, that was the one I was tempted to buy..until I realized I have 1 new souveran paste, 1 PPCL, and 2 liquid pinnacle souveran, as well as 1 L each of AIO and SG, 1 S100 wax, 1 P21s PCL, 1/2 tin of blitz, hehe..

there is still that urge though!

Yeah I know where you are coming from... Sometimes the buying of something new and different can be almost as exciting as detailing itself! :p It takes a lot of willpower to pass up a good deal on something you've been curious about (ie, everything). :(

I like trying pro brands that i have never heard of previously. Autosmart,Malco,Swissol,Sonax.

Have 25 litres of polymer and carnuba wax of 3 different brands in my supplies shed

If I read a good review of a product here, I definitely get a strong urge to order some and try it out. Another thing with me is that I don't have a totally set routine yet and as I look for the "perfect" product for a certain task, I accumulate mostly full containers of various products. I hope to be a little more frugal from here on, though. :D

My suggestion si if you are addicted to acquiring then you should have a shop. All the stock youll ever get your hands on.

I satisfied this craving when i sold cigars, i had hundreds of them.....to sell

I know exactly what you mean. You walk down a car care aisle and say to your self.. "Hmmm I always wanted to try this". Its like an addiction.

I ordered the Perfect Shine Kit to start out with after I joined the forum but my silver CLK500 will not be in until September. I currently have a Pearl Beige X5 but dont want to waste the expensive stuff on that P.O.S.!!

Thank goodness football season is here otherwise I would really be going nuts.:bounce

My problem is going to Big Lots and they have a shelf of Eagle One products, or the local auto parts store is changing their line of products and all is on sale. The other day someone had Mothers Car Wash 50% off and I bought every bottle:nixweiss . Guess I'll use it one day, and for $.98/16oz. bottle I didn't think I could go wrong. Luckily, I have resisted the urge to get the latest and greatest products just to try. I'm trying to use up what I have first. Cause if "you know who" gets lost and finds her way into the garage I'll be in BIG trouble as it is. I know, I know, it doesn't matter she has 100 pair of shoes, half of which I've never seen on her feet. LOL.

I guess I have this addiction as well. I’ve always taken care of my car, so for the past 15 years, I’ve had a car to wash and wax. I the late eighties, I would hit an auto pars store for my Mother’s California Gold Carnauba, Meguiar’s Deep Crystal Polish and bonnets for our Pro 11 orbital buffer. We had Pro’s Power Pak (best damn paint cleaner I used) and Polymer Sealant. Dad had a gallon of Miracle Wax (I think it was Pro).

Now, I’ve surpassed him in my collection. It started with Zaino in the Spring of 2001. Then, I discovered Autopia in May of 2002. All hell broke loose at that point. I had my first big order with CMA. I discovered Clearkote and Poorboy’s (gotta support NY business). Due to AutoGeek’s recent giveaway, I am having the Klasse twins shipped to me along with some of that highly regarded Liquid Souveran. I got a PC for Christmas and have gotten at least three more people to buy them. My wife knows that I must wander down the car care product section anytime we go into a Wally World or Target.

I now have more products than I’ll use in a long time. Since we bought our garage with attached house in March, my free detailing time has gone to zero. I have three cars to take car of, but none have gotten the attention they deserve. I’ve thought about detailing on the side to use the stuff up and make some side stake, but I don’t consider myself good enough. My standards are probably a little too high.

Now that I have the Klasse twin, I think I’ll stop buying for a while. I have plenty of stuff.

I went to a local off-retail variety/department store around here the other day. To my surprise I saw #6 cleaner wax and #26 HTY in a bottle. I already had the cleaner wax consumer stuff and had #26 paste. But the #6 was 6.99 and the #26 was 7.99 so I could not pass it up I bought one of each. They also had a huge tin of Mother's pure carnauba wax for 11.99, and I was so tempted, but my loyalty to Meguiar's (and the abundance of Meg's stuff I have) forced me to put it back on the shelf.

I too love buying new things to try. I'm still trying to decide which products are the ones I want to stick with, so I have a somewhat valid reason for buying stuff. Just yesterday I ordered some QEW because I've been curious on how well it works!

I do have some self control though. Just last week I did some shopping at CMA, Autogeek and TopOfTheLine. At the checkout screen on all of the orders I came to my senses and said to myself "Do I *really* need this stuff?". The answer was "no", so I closed the browser and continued with my work.
