Any wood workers here?

I recently picked up some 70's vintage audio gear that has wooden cabinets that I would like to (re) finish.



The cabinets on the amp and preamp (which are removable) have not been cleaned or protected for prolly that same amount of time; they are rather lackluster and any finish they had has been long gone. I'm looking at cleaning and (possibly) just oiling them (if that's what's recommended) while preserving the few water spots and shallow scars (as a badge of legacy) but don't want to "seal" them.



I was given a jar of Tannoy Wood Wax that I applied to a pair of vintage speakers (acquired in the same deal) which smelled of shoe polish and darkened the wood. This may be nigh impossible to remove now and I don't wish to treat the others this way.



I've read of paint thinner (to clean) and Tung Oil (to revive), would this be the way to go?

If you are just looking to protect then use collinite 476. Or sand down and restain it.To clean maybe saddle soap it will clean and put some oils in. I will give my brother a call and ask him about how to get the wax off your speakers. But if I remember turpintine on a rag will work.
