Any Intrest in Checklists?

Concours.John

Auto Detail & Restoration
I've been working on delivery checklists for new clients to show what is done.
The thought is I don't mind sharing if this would help anyone out.
I have a 4 door interior list. Modifying it for 2 door. They are done in Word.

Currently I'm working on an Excel format to plug in a similar overall inspection to calculate an estimate(input your labor rate).

I'm new to excel so this is a free time project.

The 4 door list is done.

Any intrest? Use it or modify it I don't
care. Just thought it might help someone getting started.

John,

I'd like one. Even though I only do my personal cars, it's good to have a strategy and check list to make sure everything gets completed.

I'll PM you my email.

Thank you for the offer!

As soon as I can get back to the computer I'll send it out. .......Taking a break at work. I'll also try and see if it will post.

A checklist is a great idea to check your work. I work alone and have a system that works for me and I always do multiple walks around a car at the end going through my mental checklist. I'm so OCD I can find 10 things on every trip around that I can make better.:wall But i would say a checklist is a must if you have multiple people or a crew or are just not the most mentally organized.

I think it would be great to perhaps post a sample checklist and allow others here to add to it as they see necessary. You, or the whomever is the OP, could update the original list. I'm sure it would be a very thorough list. Then people could print it out and use it themselves and edit out anything they feel is unnecessary. A great sticky idea.:bigups

I would love a copy. I've been wanting to do this but haven't been able to sit down and get it done yet.

This is the general list. One thing do when cleaning is mark the location of the drivers seat with tape on the seat bracket. This insures the seat is retuned. Pull tape after inspection.
This was condensed from my 5 page show interior checklist so there may be some omissions. Im not sure how this will appear on smaller screens. I have a large monitor.

I tried to make it flow around and through the car.:D

Thanks Gary. I'll also add when cleaning these areas all contents are bagged and labeled to location then placed back. I encourage the client to purge what they don't need when emptying them.
I use 1 gal. Ziplocks.

Thanks for the email John. I saw one for an exterior too elsewhere. I have saved it but not on this computer. They can come in handy...after spending 8 hrs with a car you can forget a little details.

John, these are great! Thanks for sharing.

I do the same thing with bagging up "stuff" I find in door pockets, under seats, etc. but I have always used brown paper lunch sacks.

Thanks for the responses! I just hope this helps. Another tip if detailing for money.
I use 3 sets per vehicle. One on inspection and rank the item 1 to 3
good, average, bad respectively.
2nd set I stopwatch the time in each line or each category and put it in the line or under the category if as a whole. 3rd is checked off for customer.

The theory is with the first set you can catch things during the estimate. The second set will after doing 3 vehicles w/a 1, 3 w/a 2, and 3 w/a 3 in each line you will have enough information to get an average. You can use that information to adjust your pricing or gauge your speed.
I don't charge the client when doing this. I do it when I have a vehicle with extra time to work with.
If the same flow is followed every time you will come up with a very accurate estimate of cost.
I'm not saying I'm the expert but it makes sense.

Thanks John!

I've been missing a few steps.

After reviewing your list it's easier to appreciate the responsibilities of a professional detailer.:bigups

I appreciate that comment. I am just recently offering my services to the public. The lists I will be making are drawn from a 735 point master. I use it for vehicles every last nut and bolt is restored for major shows.
I'm trying to make them apply to general work. It also helps me not get carried away on a general detail.
Lol.
