any experience with the Vector 7 in. Polisher/Sander?

Pep Boys has a sale on the Vector 7 in. Polisher/Sander:

* 6’ heavy duty cord

* Low speed 1000 rpm for polishing

* High speed 3000 rpm for sanding

* 11 amp motor

* Locking trigger

* Including 1 cloth bonnets

* Variable speed dial control

for $40. I know it's not a Dewalt or Makita but the price is right and the specs look fine, plus it has a two year warranty.

Any thoughts on it or experience with it?

Yes, some will require some variation in speed as product, pad and surface will dictate how the well a polish/compound will repsond. I don't want to sound like money has no value but for a little more than $100 you can have a nice machine that is lightweight and powerful in the Hitachi from Coastal Tool.

Yes, I looked at that one as well although I did not see it for only $100 - that's a good deal. I looked at the PC 7336 at Lowes for $109. But I Keep coming back to 3 things I have read and talked to others:

1 - A PC is not always enough

2 - A PC definitely takes longer than a buffer for the same work

3 - Body shop people tell me that a rotary is not really that hard to learn to use

So I am still at a loss as to which way to go. I will likely only do mine and friends - not likely a business so I do not want to spend $$$ on equipment. I want one machine that can handle most everything I will come across and that seems to be the rotary.

Thoughhts?
