Any digital camera experts out there?

zesty-man

how do ya like it?
hey, are any of you guys experts when it comes to digital cameras? im having a bit of a dilemma rite now...

i cant seem to decide between the nikon D70 and the canon digital rebel..... im leaning towars the D70 becuase its seems to be a better camera overall, however, the rebel is something you can add a lot of stuff to. however, im not quite looking to really buy another lens or a stronger flash etc etc, i just want a really reliable, fun camera.

in other news, remember how i said that compusa sent my camera to be fixed? anyways, today i just learned that those punks took my memory card out! today i was takin a few pics and it said memory full after 14 shots. i was thinking, this cant be. i looked in the memory slot, and lo and behold, its gone!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :ticked

I would get the D70 as it has more features than the Rebel.
Black D70 looks nicer/more pro too than the silver Rebel.

I sell cameras at Best Buy, and I'd probably go with the Rebel. It's easier to use and it's about $200 cheaper. It also seems a bit more sturdy to me. The Canon also has a higher resolution (6.3 to 6.1) It all depends on what you think of it though.

Actually Zest-man, either camera is a good choice. I shoot professionally and lately I've had good success with the D-70, (I also shoot with the D1x but recently I'm liking the lighter weight of the D-70 especially if I'm shooting for a long period of time). However, that choice was determined by the multitude of Nikon lenses that I own. I can use my 20 yr. old lenses (and older) on the new digital bodies.

If I was starting out buying my first digital camera I'd suggest taking a look at both cameras in question and making my decision by answering these questions :

How does the camera feel in my hand?
Are the controls user friendly?
Does the menu make sense? (again, is it user friendly?)
Which camera is easier to attach & remove the lenses?
etc.......

questions like these should help you. I have friends who love their digital Rebel as much as others who love their D-70. You can't go wrong with either one. Just remember this - you'll have to stay with the brand you bought when making lens choices. Brands are not interchangable as you probably know. Yes, you can buy from independent lens companies like Sigma but I'd suggest you stay with the brand you bought.

Hope this helps

I've got the Digital Rebel and I love it. But I have to agree with Dr Groove. You want to look at both cameras and consider the things he listed. I would agree that a black camera looks more professional than the digital rebel, however that means far less if the camera does not feel good iin your hands, if you do not like the placement and choices of the controls, if the menu system is not intuitive for you and so on. So read reviews on both cameras and then actually get your hands on both and see how they feel to you and what you like and don't like about both before you decide.

I'm no expert, but I doubt you will go wrong with either choice.

I spent a LOT of time over here before I bought my Pentax *istD. But then I did have several Pentax lenses already. Or I might have gone with Nikon. The D70 wasn't out when I bought my Pentax. A friend of mine bought the D70 and really likes it. However, he is fairly new to photography. Like someone else said, either one will be a good choice. You really need to handle it and play with it at the store as much as you can and see which one YOU like the best. Spending time in the DPREVIEW forums and the various links provided there to see which features appeal to you.

Good luck!!

hmmm, perhaps we could talk more about the digital rebel keotee!

Absolutely. PM me. I'm no photography buff, new to it really. Had the Canon Powershot A40 and really enjoyed taking pictures. I wanted something much better and am getting interested in photography now and doing some reading on it and trying to learn, but I'd be glad to help in any way I can.

yea, i have been spending a lot of time at dpreview.com to see all the reviews of cameras and user reviews. very interesting.

keotee, you have a PM :)
