About one year ago, I ordered a slip on perforated genuine leather steering wheel cover from Griot's garage. Price was good. But when it arrived, it had the nastiest pungent smell like some kind of chemical that it drove tears to my eyes and I ended up discarding it. I just bought a new car and I like to put steering wheel covers on them. I have used Wheelskins on three previous vehicles, but really don't want to go through the labor of installing it again. I called Griot's and told them I would probably like to buy another steering wheel cover, but they have a nasty smell. They were shocked and said they are not supposed to have any offensive odor. The person at the order desk told me that she has one on her car and it has no offensive smell.
So, I am ready to buy one again, and if it does smell rather stinky, does anyone know of a trick or two to get rid of offensive smells in leather? I really didn't try any chemicals on the first cover, but probably should have.
Sorry I can't describe the smell, but it was very pungent and sharp, not at all like leather.
Thanks..:dcrules
