Any 2.2L 4 banger S-10 or Sonoma owners here?

This weekend I am thinking of trading my 90 hatch for a 2.2L 94 Chevy S-10 truck. My mechanic friend said the 2.2L's are very reliable and strong engines but they are just super slow. The hatch just does not have much room and I am always borrowing trucks when I need to go to the hardware and stuff. Any info. would help. Thanks!

I never had the 2.2L, only the 4.3L on a 93 gmc sonoma, which is the same thing as an S-10. I've always like GM's. Can't you tell by what I have under my name? After the sonoma I bought the Z71 which I just love. I wanted to upgrade.

your mechanic friend is right about being a reliable motor however i disagree on it being slow these trucks are very light and these motors are strong enough and should move the vehicle fairly well.If the truck is slow, do a compression check wich you should do anyway when buying a used vehicle if that checks out check plugs, distributer and wires then check your timing you will be surprised what timing will do.If all that checks out check the vacum and make sure your not sucking air from somewhere.Good luck.
