Another Toyota thread - oh noes!

"The U.S. Department of Transportation has analyzed dozens of data recorders from Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles involved in accidents blamed on sudden acceleration and found that at the time of the crashes, throttles were wide open and the brakes were not engaged, people familiar with the findings said."

I don't understand. If the Electronic Throttle Control (Drive-By-Wire) malfunctions, i.e. the driver is braking, but the Electronic Control Unit "thinks" he is accelerating, is it not reasonable to suspect that the vehicle's data recorder will also be "mistaken"?

But hey, what do I know? If it ain't a cracked distributor cap, I'm lost!

At the height of the Toyota Fiasco the NHTSA ask for the data from the cars involved in UCA and Toyota's response was their data box did NOT collect data that would show if the driver had applied the brake.

Now they say that the data recorder shows the brake was not applied.

Toyota was looking at Billions in class action law suits but now all those people can suck goats milk because the fix is in.

3000 people don't know the brake from the throttle YEA RIGHT

My guess is that the lawsuits will force black boxes on all cars that are routinely pulled after almost any accident. The lawyers still are busy suing. I am sure some of the suits are likely not really Toyota's fault just because there is a feeding frenzy by lawyers and people looking to blame or take advantage of the situation.
