I have this uncanny luck. If its not a stray dog stuck in ice (another long rescue) coons in the chimney it's something else. Tonight we come home and this literally walks in the garage door.

We have stray cats the neighbor feeds so he is not safe outside. He will have safe haven over night in a dog cage with food and water.

He is not wild. Turns out by his tags he is a racing pigeon. Already contacted owner through his band numbers.

Eating and was very thirsty.

What's next?

It must be rescue week because we pick up 2 kittens this weekend and now they own the house. The dog's are getting use to them also.

It's gone from dogs in very bad situations (around 2 per year) to more and more different animals.

About 12 weeks ago was a lakeside surgery to catch and remove a wad fishing line and imbedded hooks in a duck. The funny thing is this duck now joins me almost every time I go out for a walk or fish there.(Seriously) I can tell its her paddling along because of the scars/scabs on her neck.(female Mallard) I happened to have my fishing/first aid kits with me that day.

I think there is a reality show in the marking... just saying!

A PDR Bird that pecks out dents. A couple of hand waxing raccoons. All I need is a polishing monkey and I'm good to go.:)! The dog can just bark when it's ready to go. Dr Doolittle's Detail Shop.

This is pretty ironic. I walk about 5 miles daily. There is one stretch on the route I frequent most often where a Pigeon comes and visits me. He'll fly down on the road and let me stroke his head. He then flies up on the phone poles and as I walk he flies from one pole to the next. He pretty much stays in a half mile area, I've never seen him follow me any further than that.

I was out edging my lawn today (about 2 miles from where this pigeon stays) and out of the corner of my eye I see a football coming at me. I jumped back only to see this bird light on the ground in front of me. Remember I have a trimmer running. He hung around going from the roof to the ground while I finished trimming. I then started mowing the lawn and this crazy bird came down on the lawn and walked step for step with me as I cut one entire side of my home. This is a pretty big area and went on for about 40 minutes. At times he would get confused on the turn around and get right in front of the mower, within about a foot. I would have to stop and tell him where to walk and he would walk with me. He eventually flew off in the direction I've normally encountered him.

He is no doubt someone's homing pigeon that has taken a liking to me. He doesn't have a leg band. It was hilarious watching him today, the lady next door was out in her garden just rolling as I instructed this bird where to walk. It's the kind of thing you see on America's Funniest Home Videos. I decided to call him Rainbow. He has a very bright band of green and purple around his neck. I'm pretty sure I'll see him again. After all he now knows where I live.

Apparently according to the director of the group that races these they do take liking to certain people.

The racing birds are hand raised and well trained. They use the sun for much navigation and will roost on severely overcast days. I was told once the sun peaks out he is good to go on his way and will head home. He will stay in one of my large dog cages till then for safety as he will only hang around and become cat food.

Funny story!
