Another misfit TV wax...

Since everyone's mentioning all these dubious products from Prolong and Pennzoil, I thought I might as well mention something I saw lying on a shelf today: Hot Shine, brought to you by the makers of Duralube!

It seems like one of those scary, ultra-strong 2 component epoxy mixes where you mix the 2 parts up and start praying.

I really REALLY wish the pic was bigger because in the top left corner there's a screen cap of a infomercial and the guy's face is just TOO funny and I burst out laughing in the middle of a department store! He's touching the warm wax and he looks kinda... constipated, yet horrified.... :D

Anyone know anything about this one?

So, do you know anyone who tried it :)

Btw, I was going through my collection last night, and found 2 bottles of Durashine and Durawash. I remember buying these about 10 years ago from an infomerical. According to the instructions, with Durashine, your car doesn't have to be dry. You just wipe it on and hose if off. It says something on the bottle about it being an advanced polymer used on spaceshuttles or something, and 1 application will protect your car the whole year. I remember the commercial also, where the guy applies durashine, then pours some lighter fluid on the hood, and sets the car on fire. Later he buffs the hood of the car, and not a hint of damage !!!

I also bought the GS27 scratch removal system plus scratch crayons some years back. The commercial looked amazing. They had a truck which dumped a load of gravel on this guys hood. They GS27 removed all the light scratches. And for the deeper ones they guy used the color coded crayon. They even showed pro's which used it to fix customers BMW's and Merc's, as it saved loads of time, and was just as good as a respray !!!

Of course as soon as I bought it, I sent it back, as it didn't work. The GS27 cream is basically the same as the Turtle Wax Safecut scratch remover paste, or Autoglym Paint Renovator, and was good for light scratches. And the crayons were a waste of time, unsurprisingly.

Yea, these "Amazing" products brought to you by the same companies that got charged and fined for false advertising claims by the FTC on the oil additives they sold. I tend to stay away from any "Space Age, NASA, High Tech" products....... Kind of like the "You can be a millionare!" just buy my video tape package!

:D

This morning while riding my exercise bike, I saw Billy Mays hawking a dent removal device! I'd actually try it, even though it's an informercial product, if it had any other spokesman.

I don't want to be mean to Mr. Mays- he's probably just a regular guy who is trying to make a living- but I cannot stand the pushy manner he adopts on thsoe informercials. Works for him, though.

Just so you guys know, the GS27 polish is just another brand/name of/for Meguiar's ScratchX. (works just the same if not better IMHO - I've used it before)

:up

oh you're talking about that "Dent Wizzard" or whatever they're calling it - for only one payment of $19.95?? that they show taking out in seconds dents that would take a PDR guy a couple hours to fix the right way??

Shiny - they are not the same product. They are the same in function, but GS27 is from a French based marketing company, and Meguiar's Scratch-X is made in Nashville TN.

True, they are both "scratch removers" (along with a large handfull of other products), but they are not the same product under 2 different names.

forrest - I know they aren't the same product. Perhaps I just wrote that so it wasnt understandable what I meant...... I was basically just saying that GS27 IS a valid product, just like Scratch X is.
