Another DP 4-in-1 Rinseless Wash Review

Today, I finally decided to take the plunge and test out the DP 4-in-1 Rinseless wash (thanks Meghan & Max). After seeing Justin's (& others) results, I trusted it enough to do it myself. We've had a lot of rain lately so the car was fairly dirty. You would have thought that being in Indiana we'd be seeing snow right now but no, all rain so far.

Anyway, I mixed up a 4 gallons of warm water & 4 ounces of DP solution. I wanted to make sure that I had enough cleaning solution since it was my first time and since the car was probably dirtier than it should be for this type of wash. I also mixed the DP solution in a bottle of water, along with a couple drops of NXT shampoo (I love this stuff). I sprayed the solution on each panel prior to washing. I went through 1.5 bottles over the entire car. I used a Meg's sheepskin wash mitt on the paint and on the wheels I used a microfiber towel that is now dedicated to wheels. If you notice, it did a heck of a job on the wheels.

Overall, I am very pleased with the end results. I will say, one of the keys to this process is to have a really good drying towel. The whole process took me about 35 minutes, and that was taking my time to make sure that I didn't induce any marring or anything of that nature. There's no sun today so the pictures aren't the greatest. Once again, being in Indiana, you can never count on Sun through the winter months.

BTW, please disregard the door ding in the drivers door. A couple weeks ago a co-working parked about 1 foot away from my car and hit my door with his as he got out. What was worse was that I had parked in an area where there were about 8 other spots open that he could have parked in but instead he parked right up against my car. I'm still waiting for the insurance/repair shop to work it out so I can get it fixed.

Questions/comments welcomed!

Looks good! I really like DP 4-in-1 myself. I like it better than ONR, but the difference is really like splitting hairs.

One question . . . when you say you added a few drops of NXT to your spray bottle of DP solution are you referring to NXT wax or NXT car wash soap?

Looks excellent. What other products are on the SP23?? I just bought an SP23 Luxury sedan for my Mum, hers is the exact same colour as yours. Just needing an idea of what products work on it.

Thanks tegboy!

Back in September I think I applied 2 layers of Klasse AIO, 2 layers of Klasse SG, & finally 2 layers of PB Natty's Blue. I recently applied a coat of Collinite 845 which I really like. I've also used DP Max Wax (my favorite wax) over the summer and it produced great results. Next spring/summer/fall, I plan on trying out a few more products on it.

The Mazda3 SP23 is a great little car. They only made 5000 SP23's for the 2005 model year (3500 sedans / 1500 hatchbacks). They only came in this color, which is my favorite color (Carbon Gray Mica). Mine is a manual which makes it a blast to drive with it's handling abilities. Overall, it's a GREAT car. I'm sure your mom will love hers.

She wanted an SP23 from when she first one, I promised her I would buy her one for Christmas, so being a man of my word, she had one delivered on 23/12/2006. Her's is a 5sp auto version with the steering wheel shifter paddles.

Fortunately in Australia there are many different colours in the SP23 models and a turbo MPS version has just arrived, which I think will suit me very nicely :)

But, I agree the Carbon Grey is a beautiful colour and fortunately our Mazda dealership did a very good job of the pre-delivery and left no marks, tracers or anything in the paint. Did you find the paint hard or soft?? I haven't had a chance to clean it yet, I quickly looked at when it arrived from Mazda. I don't want the paint, full of swirl marks after six months.

I think perhaps full Zaino Z5 pro will be in order and then I can use the Zaino leather products on the inside.

Thanks again for the advise.

Glad to hear that you were able to get her a SP23. As far as the paint is concerned, a lot of people find the paint to be soft b/c rock chips appear so easily. For a long while, I didn't have any problems with it. However, over the summer the city re-surfaced the interstate that I take to work everyday and so now I have about a dozen rock chips on the front of the car. Hopefully, when the weather turns nice again I can take care of those so they don't stand out like a sore thumb. Besides the rock chips, I'm not sure what to think about the paint. I had one instance where it I put a small scratch in the surface but then the rest of the time it seems like it holds up really well to swirls, etc. I'm sure Zaino will look very nice on yours.

BTW, have you visited the Mazda3 forums? If you haven't, the site is Mazda3Forums.com. Great place with tons of info!

Hey, MShU7... good write up and good looking car.

Fellow Hoosier here - I live on the other side of Indiana in Richmond. I, too, just used 4-in-1 for the first time a few days ago and am also impressed with the product. I decided to buy and use it after seeing Justin's write up over the last couple weeks.

Anyway... I agree about the ease of use and the excellent results. I used it on 2 dark blue cars and did not see any new swirls or scratches. The LSPs on these cars are Natty's Blue on one, and 476 on the other and I was also impressed with the shinners that 4-in-1 left behind ! Although they did not really need it, I went ahead and topped the Natty's Blue car with QuikShine and the 476 car with Crystal Mist.

Hey Docker, always nice to see a fellow Hoosier on the boards. Thanks for the compliments. After using the 4-in-1 solution for the first time, I'm a believer. It will make winter washing SOOO much easier.

Yep definitely the winter wash solution for me, however, I'm thinking this will become my default wash method and only occassionally use the hose to get the dirt in the nooks and crannies and underside. Was very nice not to have the water drips happening from the mirrors and door handles :woohoo:

The car looks like it's completely different color after the wash.......good job!! You said that you used a spray bottle during the process. Did you use it to apply the 4n1 to the car and then wipe it down? I was under the impression that you used the usual mitt/sponge you normally use but wring it out before using it so there isn't a ton of water all over. Any thoughts?

Ceezer - Thanks. You definitely should! Well worth the money.

mose - Thanks. I've thought the same thing about the color every since I washed it yesterday. Even when my wife pulled it into the driveway as she came home from work, the paint still looked deep in color. As far as my method, I used 4-in-1 in a spray bottle to spray the pre-treat the area. After that, I used my sheepskin mitt & 4 gallons of 4-in-1 solution to do the washing. I pre-treated because the car was dirty and I thought it would help cut down on any possible marring.

GoFastTSI - Thanks. Unfortunately, the guy that dented my car put all his muscle into it because it broke through the clear coat. I don't think I have any option at this point other than to have the dent popped and the door panel repainted.
