Anoth Klasse Layering Question

This season is the first time I have tried the Klasse twins. I was wondering if I could apply layers of SG indefinitely for a couple of seasons? Usually I use the car for the summer, store it and next season remove all products and rebuild the shine. If I keep using layers of SG throughout the summer and then store it could I just pull it out next year and keep layering? Is there a down side to this?

Thanks

I think that the general consensus is after 3-4 layers of SG you reach the point of diminishing returns in reguards to shine. As for protection, IMO, I would think that it wouldn't be benificial to have more than three layers on it. Any more than that and your just giving yourself a workout.

If you keep it covered during storage I would just wash it after you take it out and evaluate what you have. Worse case scenario is that you start over with AIO again.

I just keep adding KSG to the minivan for long periods of time. I use the Sonus green clay as needed to thoroughly clean things before applying, especially if it's been a while since I did a full detail. While there are benefits to stripping everything off and starting with bare paint, the KSG doesn't seem to deteriorate in such a way that you really need to clean the old stuff off very often.

I found I got markedly better durability out of six layers as opposed to four (no appearance benefits after four layers either). I first discovered this on the MPV and confirmed it by applying different numbers of layers to some wheels and keeping an eye on them.

Accumulator,

I have a gold Honda Minivan and as you pointed out in a different thread, the Minivan is a long day detail. I like the idea of doing it up, layering on some long life sealant, and adding to it as we go. The thought of adding a layer a week or adding on every day for 4 or 5 days appeals to me, as its a bear of a job and since my wife drives it, its tough to get her to stay home long enough for me to do it! What is your process?

Yeah, strip it and start over. I strip and start over all the time for fun or to try new products. But to yoru question, I would say at least do the following twice a year. Also, depends on where oyu live if you get snow, etc. : strip, clay, whateevr steps you need, then reseal in spring and late fall. This shoudl be good. If oyu live where there's snow like me, then you knwo all the gunk and crap that gets on your car, even if you keep it 100% all winter.

scooterguitar- believe it or not, even with our winters I've been able to avoid redoing the MPV. Haven't stripped it down yet this year and it looks fine. But then it probably doesn't get used as hard as some people's vehicles and I wash it as soon as it's dirty. We had a pretty mild winter this last time too ;)

SamIam- Oh how I miss the Volvo, when I had that I could park the MPV for days and do things slowly! Now it can't be off the road for long as it's my only dog-car :(

I get one coat of KSG on it after whatever prep I do (polish, AIO). Let it sit overnight and wipe off the next morning. I then immediately apply a second coat and let it sit as long as I can before buffing off.

Sometimes I do this initial work panel-by-panel, one panel after each of a few washes. I keep notes so I know what I've done to which panels. Doing the whole thing at once is a big job (and with no Volvo I can't take forever). Just *washing* it is a big job! Polishing one panel or so is more manageable.

Then I add another coat after each of the next few washes. I do a quick test with some Sonus green clay to see if it needs claying before doing the KSG (it seldom needs it).

Once I get 4-6 layers built up this way, I don't add more KSG until I notice a change in the beading. Then it's Sonus green as needed/KSG. I don't strip it down until I get some marring (usually from the seemingly inevitable trips to the bodyshop  ) and have to do some abrasive polishing.

I've been using FK425 after each wash, and it's worth it IMO. Never did it before as I was sorta testing the durability of the KSG and didn't want to introduce another variable.
