Analysis Paralysis

I have 3 cars heading into the winter without optimal protection. All the cars were coated 2+ years ago. 2 with OC 2.0 and one with GTECH EXO v2.

I can say these 2 coatings did their job and while they continue to protect and make washing easier, they don't bead like crazy any more. This makes drying is a bit more of a chore.

My thought process and ideas as as follows:

1. Clean (decon wash), Ironx, Nanoskin Prep paint, but old school Clay bottom 1/4 of car, Finish polish all paint, wipe with Eraser or IPA and apply

a. Opti-Coat Gloss Coat
b. EXO v2
c C Quartz UK (never used this before)

2. Skip the major tear down and wait for Spring and simply Reload the cars for the winter and hope for the best?

The weather may force my hand into option 2 anyway.

I don't know if I have a right to expect more than 2 years of beading performance from these coatings. Its my first experience with 2.0 and EVO v2 and between the 2, OC 2.0 is more swirl resistant and will stand up to more abuse, not that EXO v2 was bad but simply not as mar resistant. The EXO however is more hydrophobic and at approx. the same age, still beads better than OC 2.0. I know the OC was installed properly because David Saunders installed one car and I did the other the following weekend and both are performing equally.

Can someone who has used OC 2.0 and or EXO v2 compare it to Cquartz UK? I wonder what the application is on the UK and the slickness and beading?

1. Gloss Coat-Proven company, not sure I like 10ML @ 60 bucks with all the complaints about not being able to coat a full size car and wheels. Can anyone offer more clarity based on experience? If I could do my whole MDX 2x plus wheels I would give it a run.

2. CQuartz UK-Kind of curious about slickness, durability and beading as compared to eith OC 2.0 or EXO v2

3. EXO v2. Easy application, super slick and the best beads IMHO. Looking for more durability if its out there.

Anything else out there worth considering?

Thanks for reading if you made it this far-bless you :)

Will rep good answers as I have been mentally locked on what to do.

Thanks and have a good weekend.

I'll take a stab at this...for me winter prep and I don't do much since I live in No CA and we don't have the weather like some parts of the country.

It's pure and simple with me...wash, clay, polish and protect What products you use are always a personal choice. I do think that forums like this can overwhelm some and get you over thinking the process. In the end you want to clean the paints surface, polish to enhance the paint and smooth out, and protect.

UK has worked great for me.

I did notice on the Tahoe that has pbl coating the beading had gone done tons. A complete wash with reset and poof.... Beads like crazy again.

I know it doesn't help much.....

If you find you can't get to them before the snow flies, bring em down to FL and we can get em done :)

personally based on your experience and my interest in testing; I would say do one of each.

1 - GC
1 - CQUK
1 - GC + Exo

This way you can try the newer stuff and test out everything. I am interested to see if Exo on top of a coating helps in the durability at all..

Good Freaking Idea. Tried to rep you but the system says I have repped you too much.

Consider this a public repping :)

Did you wash your coated cars really good with something like Carpro Reset and try to evaluate how much coating is still there ?

Perhaps its all still there...

Just covered up with the same stuff that sticks to paintwork...

My Grand Cherokee has gone through 3 years + and was not beading as much but sheeting and a few washes with Carpro Reset changed that to beading again...
I have not touched my black paint with any machine, or compound, finishing product, etc., since I applied it..
I rather enjoy not having to do anything to it all this time and it still kills you to look at it in the sun.. :)

When you look at your clean (however you clean it ) paintwork, does it still look clear and glossy, whether it beads a lot or not ?

Does your paintwork not attract as much dirt, etc., as it used to before you coated it the first time?

Does your paintwork still look really clear and not have any or perhaps just a few wash-induced swirls, etc., in it ??

If your assessment is Yes to these evaluation questions, then I think your coating/s are still on the paint..

I'm with Dan and Ron I would deep clean it and see what the results are.

My thought process would be I wouldn't want to rush the corrections and then recoat the rides now and hate myself later. So I would try what Dan said if the EXO car seems light on protection I would slap on some Sonax PNS to get me through the winter and give it a nice full babying come spring..

I'm on board with the deep cleaning. Save the polishing for spring. Winter is just too brutal on paints and there's more risk of marring. If you do the work in spring, you'll be able to enjoy the perfect finish all summer. That or consider doing one before winter and two in the spring. Where I'm from, there's not much time left for 3 full corrections, yard work, football and family obligations prior to snow.
