an intersting article by an "undercover" car salesman

That's the first time I've read that. Truly disturbing. I hate dealerships (and not just because they do poor details :p).

Thanks.

Whoa. I've actually thought that I would do well selling cars I'm a big fan, specs and stats have always been easy for me and I have the gift of gab. I've bought enough cars to know the tricks. I also know that telling the whole truth can blow the deal...I can live with that. The money could be great....

The atmosphere, though...Ugh.

Wow, that was really interesting. I loved the part about the advice he received: "Just tell them you want to make a lot of money".

I thought this part was funny too. The irony is that it sounds like very few front line sales people actually make a lot of money.

I read that article a long time ago. I know quite a few car salesmen and dealers and while this type of dealership exists, its not always the norm. If you want a job in the car biz you've got to shop for the right dealer to work for. Some treat you great, others don't. Just like any other company.

This type of dealership is definately not the norm. I know many car salesmen, and have friends who'se children are car salesmen. When you walk into that sort of dealership you can feel the difference.

As for tell then you want to make a lot of money, thats true for any sales job. A company is always looking for a salesperson who is motivated by money, the more money they make the more money the company makes.

If you want to get into car sales, give it a try, but visit several dealerships first and get to know the feeling before you accept a position.

If I didn't stutter I think I could sell anything. Everyone I know thinks I am a honest person and my company is very enjoyable. I love cars too!!!! Too bad for me, I know I could get people to buy a car.

That article is very eye-opening.

I was once very naive and inexperienced about the ways of the world.

My first new-car buying experience was at that kind of a dealership exactly in Kansas City.

I felt the pain of being "violated" for a very long time after that.

My outlook, since that time, has been very guarded and I have been extremely cautious about going to dealerships.
