No detail for you!!!
After being somewhat inspired by this engine detail, although I first saw it on another forum, I thought I'd try my Toyota Echo. It has quite a neat engine bay so everything was quite straight-forward. I'm no expert at engine detailing so I took a lot of caution. Stuffed the intake with cloth, disconnected the battery and made sure not to spray too much water on electrical wires.
I first rinsed with a hose with attachment on "shower" setting. Then sprayed Autoglym engine cleaner liberally all over "safe areas". Waited a few seconds and started scrubbing with a brush. I kept everything moist with the hose attachment on "mist" setting. Then rinsed again on shower setting, making sure all the degreaser was rinsed off. Wiped down all the areas I could reach and left to dry in the sun for a few hours. After that I dressed plastic/trim/hoses with Meg's GC Trim Detailer.
Before--
After--
I waited another 2 hours before re-connecting the battery and then started the engine and went for a run to make sure it was completely dry.
All up, wasn't very difficult and nothing went wrong but I knew I was taking a risk, so I didn't want to use a high-pressure hose. I think it still came up pretty well.
