Alright well I have spent some time on the internet researching and shopping to get my detailing line up to par. I ordered a pc yesterday for 107 :grinno: and then I made my way over to autogeek to order my products and pads. I was dead set on the meg line but then I did some more reading and moved on over to the op/oc combo. I then went to order pads and was going to take advantage of their sale pads. I then started reading and it said I should have a white pad. Well the white pads arent on sale, but I did find them for 10.99 which isnt bad. Question is though, do I need a white pad? I was going to order the yellow for some heavy scratches to go along with the OC and then the orange to finish the paint with OP and then the blue to lay down my wax....

Does the white one need to be put in there?

Also they are out of the 5 inch backing plate. Can I get these locally at the home depot, lowes, or menards?

i would suggest getting a few white pads, as they're one of the staple pads (used for light polishing) and probably one of the most commonly used. you won't be able to find the backing plate at lowes, home depot, or hardware stores. check your local detail supply shop, etc...

Congrats on the price! Even if you decide to 'trade up' to the UDM when it comes out mid-June hopefully you even out or come up a little bit under what it would have cost you to buy it directly. I'd get one unless you like applying LSP's by hand for some reason:grinno:

Ok well so what do I need then a yellow pad, orange pad, and two white pads?

Then just the OP and OC?

I wanted to detail the cars this weekend but if I dont get my order in this afternoon I dont think I will get the stuff intime.

well i have some semi deep scratches i need to get out so i think i wil need the yellow pad. what products would i use with the white and gray pads? does anyone know any other good places to oder pads where autopians get a discocunt like autogeek?

getting at least one yellow pad (trying using the orange pad first) won't hurt, that could be used for severe defects, but of course most likely you will have to follow it up with a white pad (used with light polishes). remember, use the least aggressive approach first and move up as needed, and also use one product per pad as you don't want to cross contaminate...

exceldetail.com / pakshak.com / danase.com / etc...

p.s. look in the "click & brag" section, and you'll see many different pad/product combos that have worked for many on here on different vehicles...

well what is a good polish with the white pad? cant i use the blue pad instead of the white with a light polish. like i said i am going to pick up some op and oc... op for the orange pad and oc for the yellow? then what for the blue pad? then a gray pad for wax

taken for the AG site...

For optimum results, it’s best to own each type of pad. Compounding with a yellow or orange pad may slightly rough up the paint. You will need the white pad to refine the paint to its original shine and texture. The gray pad will then give you a uniform wax application.
