AllRoad - Bra Glue removal + Roof ?'s

Don't know how long ago the bra was removed from this '03 (the customer just purchased it), seems like it's been this way for years, but the residue won't come off with 3M Adhesive remover. :

I tried a little D300 on a MF towel, rubbed it in by hand, and while it appears to do the trick (mostly) what's left is what looks like, for lack of a better term, large areas of orange peel. which I'm guessing is still more of the glue, but polished. Y/N? Any suggestions for glue that's been sitting for ages? After looking at it closer, it almost appears that the glue has etched the paint; that is, while there may be a film left on top of the paint, it seems the glue may have 'stained' the paint.

And while I'm at it, searched and couldn't find any definitive techniques for correcting/polishing the coated roof of AllRoads. So any info here would also be appreciated.

I use laquer thinner to get clear bra glue off. But being left there for so long. Maybe try rotary and wool? If that doesn't work 2k sand paper? Good luck!

I'm going to second on the LT or accatone but you really have to be quick with it, and wash it off as you go. Try a small area maybe an inch square, to see if it loosens it up. Then if that works then work in very small areas removing it and washing it off as you go. A good solid polishing is needed to follow, as the LT will dull the clear coat some.

Thanks Jsmooth.

Been there, done that. Concerned about getting too aggressive because it looks like someone tried to remove the glue using brillo and the paint is real thin in that area.

I'm tempted to mix up a concoction of 105/D300 and some LT and working it with a MF pad on a DA:wow:

He's giving it to his 20 something daughter and repainting the hood is not out of the question for him.

In that case I would call him up and tell him your probably looking at a repaint... But if you want I can try some aggressive sanding and polishing that may or may not work. So even if you go through your not on the hook because he was looking at repaint anyway. Good luck bro

What remains of the glue is like Amber. Just hope I don't burn thru the paint. Gonna start with D151 on a SurBuf and work my way up ...

Decided on 3000 grit paper and it's working fine. Will post back pics when done.

Thanks for all the replies.

Never mind :(

After sanding a section or two and following up with D300 and a dab of 105, it's still visible, albeit very much muted. And I just don't want to get to aggressive with the sanding ( did drop down to 1500 and worked up to 3000).

It's buffing out fine and if he wants a repaint, I'd rather he make that decision then it be a result of my taking the finish from 3.9 +/- mils down to who knows what 'cause I don't know how thick the glue really is; and it's all over the hood.

He's a good customer and he's fine with it.

So I mis-read the finish. What I thought was glue was actually the clear coat. It has some sort of ripples in it; and maybe what looks like the beginning of some sort of lifting (?)

Anyway, after sanding, I went at it with 105/205 and a polish.

There still is some sort of dullness in one area ( I don't think it's visible in the images) that I just can't seem to correct.

That line across the hood is a vapor trail.
