Alcohol in a spray bottle.

I'm having such a time with smeared and streaked windows.:crazy2: Would putting straight isopropyl alcohol in a pump spray bottle help to clear the mess up? I have tried all the available tint-safe brands, and am at a loss.:wall

What are you using to wipe the windows with? Are you having problems with the inside, outside or both? Which products have you used? I don't think the alchohol is a good idea, especially on the tinted glass.

I've been using Mequiar's NXT glass cleaner or Stoners Invisible glass and have never had streaking. After spraying the window, I wipe it with a microfiber, then flip the towel over to the dry side for a final wipe.

Huh, that's strange. I have always been told (even by the tint shop guy) that alcohol (isopropyl, the kind you buy at any drug store) is just fine for the tinted windows but ammonia is definitely not.

???

I'm sorry, you are right, I was confusing myself with alcohol and ammonia

Cleaning glass is all in the towel(towels preferably.) Next time use two seperate MF's and see if you have the same problem. I always flip to a fresh sideafter every window on my dry(2nd pass) mf.

few things will help. Get some Stoners Invisible glass cleaner, tint safe and highly effective.

Next good micro fiber towels that are designed to clean glass.

This is what I have been doing for years and I have no more streaking problems

Spray on cleaner wipe with one side of the towel turn over and buff, done deal!

I used to use and recommend Eagle One 20/20, but as soon as I used Soners Invisible Glass, I never looked back. Like Beemerboy said, combine that with a quality microfiber towel and you shouldn't have any problems.

I used Stoners in the past. I just cannot get it to work. I have the blue Professional's Choice BOGO from Advance I'm going to try if it ever gets warmed up outside.:rain:

Having dedicated glass MFs seems to make a difference for me. I think it is pretty likely some wax/polish residue will be left in towels used for that purpose, washed and then used for glass.

Are you advocates of Stoner's Invisible Glass recommending the aerosol or the liquid spray bottle?

FWIW, I'm having good results with Meguiar's NXT Glass Cleaner, but the IG aerosol worked fine as well. The liquid, I haven't tried, but I have a friend that thinks it's great.

In case you don't have a "glass specific" towel, some that I would recommend are:
PB's velvet smooth glass towel-online through PBW and others
Viking Glass towel (2 pack) available at various car parts places
"Huck" or "surgical" cotton towels-"lint free," usually blue. Available from some online retailers (victoria wax) as well as at some janitorial supply shops.

As mentioned earlier, keep these separate from wax/qd towels, as the residue could contaminate the glass towels.
Make sure you thoroughly buff the glass with a clean towel after you've cleaned off the visible grime, as there is often what's called a "surfactant film" left behind. This means that you haven't removed all of the glass cleaner, and the residue is attracting grime/film to it, which is why you may think the glass looks good today, but a few days later streaks appear (in the pattern of how you wiped the glass.).

Of the two Stoner's I have only used the Stoner's aerosol. I like it alot.I use more towels on my windows than I do my paint when doing our cars.

Today at work I had the opportunity to spray the mirrors in the restrooms, so I tried alcohol. Worked okay, I just now have to attempt it in the car.

Hi I found Invisible Glass cleaner by Stoner Co. to do a great job eliminating streaking and smears, also use micro fiber cloth, Have a Good Day

Dedicated glass towels are the way to go, whether microfiber or otherwise. Wash them separately from other towels.

Lesson learned with my shopand letting one of the new people do laundry: he tossed a tire dressing applicator in the wash with the glass towels. We all had streaky windows for that day until I unearthed the applicator from that basket.
