Alcohol/Distilled Water "Spritzer"

I've seen this mentioned before... the alcohol/distilled water "spritzer"... what, exactly, is this used for? :o

1) Works well with newspaper to clean windows. For windows only, you can mix 1/2 water/ 1/4 denatured alcohol, and 1/4 white vinegar.

2) Removes filler, and "dust" from compunding so you can see what you did, and filler and "oils" from swirl mark removers if you are trying to get down to a bare finish.

3) Remove Zaino or Poorboy's EX — Dawn washing will not remove these two products.

Hope that helps.

I am always looking for a way to make my windows look better what is the best ratio for all 3 ( water alcohol and vinegar) ? thanks for the tip

avoid using that stuff on the inside if you have window tint btw. Most auto glass cleaners are tint safe, it should say on the bottle.

I'm about to do both these things. I'm looking at isopropyl alcohol in the stores. Some is 50%, some 70%. When you say use a 50/50 mix of alcohol and water, would that be just straight 50% isopropyl alcohol? Or should I look for 100% alcohol (if there is such a thing) to mix with distilled water? I tried a search on "alcohol + 50%" but got the "Sorry--no matches" response from the search engine. I'm guessing this question has been addressed plenty, and I'm just not finding it.

I bought the 91% and cut it - but if I'd have paid attention, I'd have bought the 50% and used it as it - which is what I'll do next time - no muss, no fuss....

If you were to add vinegar into the 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol how much vinegar would you add to make it effective?

Are there any significant potential downsides to using alcohol of this concentration on a car's paint? I've heard that it "drys out" the paint. Is this a valid concern? Is it significant?

Thanks.

If memory serves I believe I was told here on Autopia that alcohol will not remove Zaino or EX and that Dawn does remove both.

In a post above it's stated that alcohol does remove Zaino and EX and Dawn does not. I don't think that is correct but...???

Any comments from anyone who knows?

I don't use either, but I am fairly certain that the above post is correct. ;) Sealants tend to be detergent resistant, but alcohol or mineral spirits tend to wipe them out.

I'm still curious is there is any merit to the proposition that using an ETOH and H20 mixture on paint could be harmful to the paint? Apparently it can be used with good effect to strip sealants and polish residues, but will it harm the underlying paint in any way?

Thanks.

Ok, so just to make this clear..

Ratio for removing fillers: 50% Alcohol 50% Water (use highest percentage alcohol found)

Ratio for windows: 50% water 25% alcohol 25% white vinegar

So when does one use 1/3 of each Water, Alcohol and Vinegar... and what is the ratio for removing Zaino?

Just wanna be as clear as possible on this
