Hey guys,

My brother might have Chronic Bronchitis, and I need something to help. My mom smokes at her house which of course he lives in. And he is only 14 so I want to do everything I can to possibly help as much as I can.

Besides from moving out & her quitting - what do you guys recommend from tobacco smoke removal

I was thinking of buying one of those Ionic Pro Air Purifiers....

Sorry to hear that.

I think the Ionic has a bad rating. Most cleaners have ratings on them. These rating are with a clean fresh filter. So smoke filtering would quickly go down as the filter would tar up. I have researched cleaners and for good ones expect to start at about $400.

One thing that you could do is install a premium furnace filter and run it constantly.

If you research smoke eaters they usually are activated charcoal based. You can buy something similar off ebay and buy replacement charcoal to refill. Hang it close to the ceiling. Check out 8 x 14 ACTIVATED CHARCOAL FILTER ODOR SCRUBBER 240 CFM - (eBay.ca item 120315718860 end time 07-Dec-08 23:50:12 EST)

For that matter you could make your own.

We have Charcoal filters at work to filter agents out of PAPR's of people who are not vaccinated for a certain SA. I am sure I can fabricate up something then.:xyxthumbs

Smoke particles are extremely small and need to be removed electrostatically. I think you're going to go broke with charcoal filters. Does the house have forced air heating/cooling? If so you can get a whole-house electronic air cleaner that goes in the furnace air handler. The classic units are Honeywell, but I think all the major home HVAC co's are making/selling them now (Carrier, Trane, etc.)

one of my nephews friends mom smokes (she's the only one in the family who does) and when she needs to, she goes outside and does it as she knows that others don't want to smell it. not to mention it doesn't stink up the house. in anycase stiffdogg06... it's good that you're looking out for your little bro, good for you... :up
