i'm planning on dawning my car soon and starting from scratch to do it the proper way and i have a few questions.

after dawning it should i use SMR or clay it first?

is there anything else i need to do before i seal it in with klasse?

should i use AIO or SG after this?

and what do you think of P21G wax on top? is it bad if i don't use the other P21 products with the wax?

...the 94 BMW that I did on Saturday had the owners impressed. My steps (cribbed from here, natch :) ):

1. Thorough wash with Dawn to get the junk off.

2. Clay

3. Quick wash

4. 3M SMR with the PC (wish I'd had a more aggressive abrasive. The paint on the Beemer was way harder than that on my Miata)

5. Wash and dry

6. AIO by PC

7. SG

The P21S wax has a good enough rep that I bought some to use over the top of my Klasse. (Actually I bought the cheaper S100 version which is purported to be the exact same product). I don't have enough coats of SG on yet to try it though; maybe this weekend?

Good luck!

Portdog has it pretty much correct.

Clay before SMR. But check the finish after claying to determine if you really need to SMR. Is the car new? old? color? swirls? ever been detailed? good shape? rough shape? etc.

Let's assume you need the SMR - do that after the clay. Then you can wash again to remove oils or simply AIO. Most like 2 coats of AIO and then 3 coats of SG - you can do more or less depending on your time limits but anymore than 2AIO/3SG seems to have dimishing returns.

Then wax with the topper of your choice. Or just leave it with the SG on top - some like that too.

Bottomline: wash/clay/polish/seal/wax
