I plan to take everything off with Dawn. After that do I use

a Cleaner/Wax like Meguiars followed by their #26 or do

I just give it two coats of wax without the cleaner? Thanks

That all depends upon the condition of the finish at that point.

I think just about everyone would agree that a clay bar treatment would be the next thing to do! Its quick, easy and the results will amaze you.

From there another wash to remove the lubricant and now decide what needs to be done.

If you could tell us the color and condition of the paint, it will be much easier to advise you.

Paint surface in excellent condition:

Will probably benefit from a pure polish or glaze product before putting on your favorite wax.

Paint surface not in excellent condition:

This is the treasure island of detailing. You will be able to find practically dozens of threads on how to tackle any particular type of paint surface scenarios. If the surface is gritty, you may need to clay it. If the paint seems oxidized, you may need a paint cleaner. If you would like to even out the swirls, you may find advices on product suggestions, PC settings, pads usage and all sorts of good advices. If you could provide more details of the current condition of the paint surface that you are working on, many would be able to point you to some other threads for reference.

Aloha!

BOBBYBOB, in the future please post in a forum like Autopia University. That's where a lot of people post their more basic questions so it's the right place for it and you'll get more people reading your thread. This forum is where "how-to" articles are posted up. Thanks.
