So after you get the scratches,swirls, etc with polish and a hard cutting pad, what do you do to just maintain the cars finish? Do you just wax it? Or do you have to repeat the whole process of cutting with a pad?

Just a wax every month or so. If your finish needs another polishing in a few weeks then you really need to refine your wash techniques to reduce the marring in the first place so you won't have to correct them.

you need to step down to a less abrasive pad and product before going to the wax stage
