Advice From Mobile Guys

Hi guys,

Been awhile since ive posted, been busy working at the dealership where i manage the detail shop. Im going to have about 3-4 mobile details coming up in the next months before i loose this nice weather. Mostly family and friends some cars trashed, some better( nice mercedes etc... ) My concerns are im thinking of ditching the pressure washer and going ONR style but thats a bit out of my comfort zone as far as my detailing procedure and methods are concerned. I can go the pressure washer and 2 bucket route or ONR W&W route which i have used a few times (bosses jet skies, old caddy show car, boat some other misc cars) But these were not full details, just quick washes where ONR W&W was awesome!

For me im so used to pressure washer and soap buckets/ nano wash mitt for decon and i have a set wash/rinse method i don't want to go out of my comfort zone and miss something or not clean something as good as i can if that makes sense?

I have pretty much most of the products you guys know, OPC, ONR, GPS, Speed, Opti seal etc... Wheel woolies, brushes the works so if you guys could maybe give me some insight on your switch to rinse less washing and decon, cleaning wheels and wheel wells, engines etc.. Id greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

Honestly, if I had to go back to using a hose to detail every car, I'd find another line of work. ONR makes my job so much easier. Real time saver. For really dirty wheels, I spray down with Optimum Power Clean cut 3:1 and then wash with ONR (I use separate buckets for wheels and paint) and OPC doesn't affect ONR's ability to clean without rinsing. For engines, you can use OPC (again at 3:1) and a pesticide sprayer. We don't get any industrial fallout to speak of so claying solves 99% of the contamination issues I run into.

Thanks Scott as far as mobile goes id love to not have to use a hose and pressure washer hence my post about going out of my comfort zone and switching to rinse less and you basically addressed my 2 concerns , wheels and engines. So after I wash the car with ONR I can use OPC to clean wheels/wells then follow with a separate MF towel and ONR. And keep a bucket for exterior paint and a bucket for wheels and engine ...

What he said, but I just use my leftover ONR after I do paint for wheels/fender wells.

I wouldn't find another line of work if there was no ONR, but I certainly wouldn't do maintenance washes without it.

Thanks mark thats actually a good idea. For me I can do a full wash/decon using pressure washer in about 30 min including washing the engine. But id like to not have to have a hose or PW on hand to make it simpler.

I really avoid bringing my PWer on mobile jobs unless I really have a need for it. I'm now usually just washing the wheels/tires with a garden hose and low water washing the exterior. Saves time and comes out really nice.

I was never able to come close to my wash time with ONR as far as quickness goes, but I switched anyway. I think vehicles in my area were a lot dirtier than what most people have to deal with. ONR allowed me to switch to a small fuel efficient vehicle so I came out on top in the end.

When I was full-mobile, I always had my commercial electric PW'er ready to rock and roll straight from the rear of my enclosed truck. All I had to do was run a hose from the building and drag my pressure line out. Wrapping up took 5 minutes.

I have ONR for when I need it. But I am not a fan of 24/7 ONR washes. Just doesn't fit my workflow. Some of the guys here have a workflow that works very well with ONR though.

ONR is nice, but doesnt clean the cracks and crevices well enough for me.  a hose works there better.  A pressure washer, well, I am using it less and less these days.  Only place I find it useful is on truck wheel wells and very grooved tires (nitto grapplers, BFG mud tires, etc) but then again, I hardly do trucks anymore!  Forget trying to wash a F350 with a shell with a hose in the sun; this is where ONR is king for me, but I still need the PW for the suspension and tires and wheel wells...

all tools have their place!

Curious about using ONR on mobile correction details...how do you then strip the existing wax before claying and polishing? Or do correction details get a full hose wash and maintenance wash the ONR??
Thanks

I think that you would use ONR with some Opt Power Clean in it.

I have not done this personally, but I do believe they said that 8 to 1

Can strip LSP. Or, was it that 8 to 1 was LSP safe?

Lol, I guess someone needs to chime in on the ONR concentration.
