Believe it or not people still like a friendly hand shake. My first week in the business was driving and talking in my local area to Licenced Dealers. 14 full details and now one week later 3 commited Dealers. My education is in sales, I did not sale the first detail package price, (never spoke of it) I sold me and quality of my work, my dealers are still waiting on there price. Good luck all hope this helps

I understand what you are saying, but most dealers in this area aren't going to pay well, regardless of how well on sells their services. I hope it works out for you when it comes time to give them the price.

I think your strategy would work much better for a car owner that loves their car, than a dealer that is looking to maximize profit.

I had a friend who worked at a BMW dealership in New Jersey as a "detailer" when we were 19 years old. They paid him $8 an hour!

My charges work out what I consider to be good. My detail charges for my 3 dealers start at 165.00 and go up depending on condition and size. Thankfully all bills are payed to date. My average time is about 4 hours. I did a little research before I approached them to learn who they where using, I did let them know I am not the cheapest but my quality is there. Any advise is appreciated.

So when you talked to the dealers, do you set up a contract where they pay you so much and guarantee you so much work, or is it strictly by when they need you? Interested to find out as I'll be going the same rout eventually.

I just have a hard time believing dealers are willing to pay for quality. They just wnat the car to look good enough to sell...they don't care if it has been covered with filler prodcuts or not. It is all about putting as little investment in the car, and maximizing profit for these guys.

If you are wanting to sell yourself, and you really do quality work, go after car owners that love their cars. They will appreciate and pay happily for your work.

The deal with dealing with dealers (say that 3 times fast LOL) is not to talk to the Wash guys or the used car guys. Talk to the Service Managers. These are the people that have to deal with the clientel all the time. And they know who's going to be picky and who isn't. Right now I have Patsy Lou's account (Largest GM Dealership in the world 6 years running) They have not only their own full detail area (8 bays I beleive) but they also have their own swirl - o -matic car washes and offer anyone that buys a vehicle from them free car washes for life. So just talking to them I knew it wasn't looking good. However the service manager confirmed my thoughts. They have many high end clientel that have $50,000+ vehicles that don't want the swirl-o-matic and definatly don't want the $10/hr wash boys touching their cars. So they send them down to me. remember there are many many facets to a dealership. Lots of real money to be made if you talk to the right people in the right dealerships. (Just stay away from the used car manangers... They want it cheap and they need it perfect and are more often than not a complete pain in the *** to deal with)
