Acidity or alkalinity of products

After reading David's great ebook and searching other posts I was hoping someone could advise me on how to find the acidity, alkalinity, or petroleum content of a product. The reason I am asking is because in the book he talks about the fact that they have different cleaning purposes depending on the soil (organic, inorganic, or petroleum). Maybe I'm just missing something but I would like to be able to know what to look for in products. Is it possible or worthwile to use a PH tester like one would use for a pool to test my current products? I apologize in advance if it is a dumb question.

Thanks,

Brad

You can buy a pH tester for about $40 if you want one. Or you could use the correct product for the job.

Obviously some products work better than others at certain tasks. Determining which product to use by pH only is a mistake. What you should be focused on is the reaction between two products. For example, you wouldn't want to use an acid cleaner on a leather seat but you could use it to clean a dirty wheel.

As for petroleum based products, you can tell by scent, ingredients list, or MSDS. It all depends on what product you're using. But again, it's the application that's critical, more so than the composition of a certain product.
