A Very Scary Halloween-2002 Black Volvo S80 Repaint

The owners bought this car approx a year ago knowning full well it was a repaint. Best part about the repaint-nothing-Single stage or it was tinted clear. Soft as heck, a major PITA. Horrible OP on the horz panels, not much better on the verts.

For some reason I never took any before full car pics. :Geezx

Before:

Foamed up with the lance and a mix of 2oz of CGCW, 1 oz of Z7 and water in the quart bottle. Lower panels and front got bug sponge.

Took about 90 mins to clay the car. Overspray on the glass, ect.

This is what the claybar looked like after half of the trunk:

After one pass of presta 1500/green wool/metabo 1500:

img3002sk1.jpg

Still some RIDS that can not be seen in the above pics.

After 1 pass on 25% of the hood:

img3003wh5.jpg

The system 2000 pad washer saves the day again. After the hood or 2 of the vert panels, I would wash the wool pad.

Finished out the horz panels with:

Presta 1500/green wool/metabo 1500 x2

3M ultra fina/White CCS/Metabo 1500

Started working on the vert panels and they where worse then the horz panels. The green pad combo was not cutting it. So I moved up to:

3M extra cut/Yellow wool/Metabo 1700-This cuts fast but really hammers the surface on this soft paint.

Then I had to follow with:

Presta 1500/green wool/metabo 1500

3M ultra fina/White CCS/Metabo 1500-With the ultra fina you want to do about 4 passes with pressure and then no pressure at 1100 or so for 2-3 more passes. This removed everything that the green wool left.

So all the vert panels received a 3 step polishing.

I then foamed the car again this time with Z7, quick mitt wash-I can see the oils from ultra fina lifting off of the surface. (rainbow effect in the foam)

I then did:

50/50 wipedown to ensure a clean surface.

2x of ZFX'd Z5pro.

1x of Z2pro

Z8

Wheels:

PB SnR x2 2nd time with Bug sponge.

ZAIO

Tires and wells AM Red Hot APC 1:1-The dirt just starts bleeding out after 30 seconds of spraying it on. Scrubbed with brush.

Glass and black trim got ZAIO PC4 orange pad.

Interior:

Vac

IZ CP on a trim and dash

Z-9/10 on seats

IG on glass

AM 777 APC 1:6 on rubber matts, followed with PB NL.

Paint did have some nice flake in it:

APC will really dry out those rubber mats:

Much better after some PB NL:

Holy CRAP that is an amazing turn around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW WOW WOW.

Bryan, that thing looks sick now :D.

The ultra fina is great, and a quick Z7 wash definetly removes any oils, leaving you with a true finish! Perfect for Zaino (as your pics show)

Fabulous work Bryan. I know the paint put some wear and tear on your back, the volvo looks as deep as any on this site no question. Whoever says synthetics lack depth and wetness obviously has very little Zaino experience.

Todd, Thanks for your kind words! Thanks to Ryan and yourself for the recommendation on the ultra fina and usage tips!

Rick, You are much too kind. Thank you very much for your kind thoughts.

I could not see me doing something like this with a yellow foam pad. I just ordered 2 new DS edge green and one black wool pads. Have you ever tried the black wool yet? Be prepared to clean up that mess with the green wool. I try not to use the black too much, but sometimes you get those vettes that just ask for it. :grinno:

I think I had a good 12 hours on the car and the interior was maybe an hour.

Makes me miss my '99 S80, such a great car...

Beautiful work, very impressive considering it was a repaint. Was it a woman owner? Reason I ask is that I see that white stuff on the steering wheels, possible from make up. My wife's steering wheel is always white, it's a real paint to clean it.

The owner told me today the car is a 2004 not a 2002.

Thanks P1! Yes she drives it everyday. Now that you mention it, I will have to complete ensure to double check that area next time.

Thanks Wade!

We now have some parking garages at work and it sat up there for a few weeks with a for sale sign on it. Yes, busy enough that I don't even have time to give it a good detail for "for sale" pics. Oh well before I got busy I did not have a detail for 3 weeks. So I better get them while I can. :waxing:
