Power Washer

Before Autopia I used it regularly on my Explorer, then one day I put a cut on the rubber gasket that is around the front windshield(which been replaced since) so I parked it.

Now, do you guys use a Washer for any tasks around the car ? Or is this a stay away tool?

Obviously I was using it at the wrong pressure setting, learned that much since...:o :scared

I spent good money on it(Honda make) so I would like to use it for something:nixweiss

Tell me about your experiences with it and your uses for it:xyxthumbs :wavey

I use an electric PW with 1650 psi for wheels, tires, and floormats only...

Paint and trim can be damaged, as you know.

More powerful, gas powered units are risky business, to say the least.

I use mine daily since I am a mobile detailer. When using a pressure washer - drop the pressure down. I usually run mine about 1500 psi which is more than enough pressure to wash a vehicle. You can use your pressurewasher for a lot of things - cleaning patios, decks, fences, homes, driveway, concrete, and etc. I have had a pressurewasher for about 10 years and could not do without. Then again - I am a Tim the Toolman - Arg!

I use a power washer ONLY on wheel wells and undercariages. I did my wheel wells to prep them for Meguiar's Engine Kote and will be doing the same today on my gf's car. I would never use a power washer on paint :nono It does work very well on concrete, I just use it briefly to not abrade too much of it away

My pressure washer can do 3000psi and I have never damage a car with it. If you put the washer tip one inches away from the paint your going to damage it. Thereare some places on the car you can bring the washer tip in close, like the wheel wells. If you’re not sure what will damage your car play it safe and keep the wand two or three feet away from you car.

The keys to safely using a pressure washer on a vehicle are angle, distance and common sense!

Sure, you can stand real far away but I'd rather just use a plain hose then. I only use the pressure washer for deep down cleaning most often only needed on the wheels wells and undercarriage. I often use the power washer there first thing in spring to get rid of residue road salt. Always worked well :up

Be real careful around your tires. A little too fine a stream and the right amount of pressure and ....oops! But for undercarriage cleaning there is no equal.

Funny this thread came up since my father just bought one tht I will be using this winter. I've never ahd a problem with the sprayer at the carwash (stay AWAY from the brush!). I plan to use it during the winter when I can't really wash to keep the undercarriage, wheel wells, etc salt free. I'll use it on the paint too...but carefully.

Good advice, and yes it’s capable of stripping wax, I’ve seen contractors removing concrete with them.
