A tale of a JET BLACK BMW Coupe Perfected by Got_Leather

This car came from the Richmond area which is an hour south of me and the owner dropped it off on a Sunday afternoon, and picked up the following Sunday. He allowed me plenty of time to work on his car since both of our schedules were hectic. The week prior to his appointment he had the dealership do some warranty work on his car and specifically told them not to wash it, but of course they did.

Upon arrival the owner and I went over the car and he pointed out a few areas that had some deeper scratches that received some wet sanding to fully remove.

This car belongs to member ZedHead. Thanks again Geoff.

After spending time with the owner, talking cars and such (first time I actually met him in person) I told him about the process I would need to take after seeing the car in person and we agreed on perfection. He wanted to take his car to another level and wanted to see its true potential.

During the detail, I had my guy come over and tint the windows. We decided on 35% all the way around.

Process was as following -

-Wash via Dawn and 2BM to remove any protection the car previously had

-Clay

-The RIDS (random isolated deep scratches) received 3M 1500 Wetordry followed by Meguiars Unigirt 3000 wet sanding paper.

-Meguiars M105 via Purple Foam Wool @ 1400 RPM's

-Menzerna Super Intensive Polish via White Lake Country Pad @ 1400 RPM's

-Menzerna 106FA Nano Polish via Black Lake Country Pad @ 1200 RPM's, then dropped the speed down to 900 RPM's to finish out.

-91% IPA wipe down

-Chemical Guyz EZ Creme Glaze via Black Lake Country Pad @ speed 6 on PC

-Optimum Opti-Seal x2 on all painted surfaces and 1x on glass, lights, etc.

-Optimum Car Wax v2

-Wheels received Optimum Poli-Seal.

THANKS TO ERIC (Howareb) for helping and allowing the use of HIS shop :thx

Here is what the car looked like upon arrival

The next picture is after I pulled into the sun to see the results. I had to take these pictures quickly as the sun was in and out all day. The marks you see are just me not removing the polish. But the finish I got was amazing.

It looks amazing.

Why do all the cars have such bad orange peel nowdays? all 3 of mine do as well, including the bmw

That front fender was the worse of the orange peel. If it wasn't for that, the picture would be awesome.

looks great!!!! Jet Black is certainly a PITA and keep pushing off doing mine haha....

how did you rinse off the apc when doing the engine? did you cover any electronics?

DJ...great work man! That's the car you were talking to me about on photography, right? It looks like it turned out tremendous, and I'm sure the owner was very happy.

Indeed, the owner was amazed... and still is. DJ did an absolutely amazing job. He not only conquered BMW's infamous Jet Black, but did so on one of Chris Bangle's more daring "flame surfaced" sheet metal designs. The Z4 coupe is a beautiful mess of convex and concave surfaces, and DJ really brought the out the best in the car's color and form.

I'm constantly amazed by what you true and truly passionate detailers achieve! There are a LOT of so-called detailer in town, but few of Autopian caliber.

Cheers to all, but especially to DJ and Reflections Detailing.

Todd - yes, this was the car. Thanks my friend. Can't wait to see your next post.

Geoff - Thanks again for allowing the time to have your car done the right way. It was a joy to have you as a customer. See you soon.

Well done on a soft paint. That 106FA is very nice stuff, I love it over the FF.

Cheers,

GREG

106FA is truly a great polish. However I did try Optimum Finish this week and its just like 106FA but cheaper :) Both are top notch.
