A Story I Would Like To Share

BLUELINE 1

Protect and Shine
As some of you know I work in law enforcement here in Augusta, Georgia. I've been employed with the Sheriff's Office since 1995.
Back in the summer of 1990(before I was employed) a fellow officer was gunned down by some thugs. His name is David. David was shot while getting his rain gear out of the trunk of his patrol car. The thugs then stood over him and put every bullet they had left in his back and head. By the grace of God he survived. David lost one eye and had several medical problems over the next few years. He started to have kidney failure and was in need of a new kidney. His mother provided him with one of hers. David was able to return to work. He wasn't able to go back to patrol, so he took a postion with our training division. Over the years he has had the chance to train hundreds of officers. He was also able to return to coaching little league baseball, something that he loved to do.
In December of 2006 the kidney David's mother donated started to fail. He became very ill and wasn't able to work or do much at all. Since December David has been in search of a kidey, and has had a glimmer of hope on diffrent occasions, but nothing has panned out. There was a close match in TN, but after further test were done it wasn't a close enough match. The Sheriff's Office decided to put on a fund raiser to collect money for whoever would donate with all proceeds going to help that person while they were in recovey. The days kept going by and no match could be found.

In 2005 a young man(22yoa) by the name of Eric decided to become a police officer. Eric was hired on with our depatment. Eric was trained by David like all the other deputies. Eric is a husband and father of a 2 year old girl.
On Tuesday March the 20th 2007 Eric was involved in a traffic accident while enroute to work. It was around 4:45 am on a small country road where Eric lost control of his patrol car and slammed into some trees. Eric recieved several injuries from the accident to include serious head injuries. On Wednesday the 21st of March around 12:01 am Eric (now 24yoa) passed away.
Yes this is going where you think it is. Eric's wife advised that if it was a match she wanted David a fellow officer of Erics to have his kidney. I have just been advised it was a match and the surgery was done last night and David is in recovery as I type the words.
This is a loss for one family and a gain for another. It's amazing how life works! Just thought I would share this sad but amazing story with you.

wow thats a very touching story. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope that David has a full recovery and will be with us for many more years. And im very said about Eric but thankfully his wife wanted to help David out.

Wow!! What a story. It's so sad for both parties, but at the same time it's amazing how something so awful, like being gunned down or getting into a car accident, can provide life and hope out of the ashes. Truly an amazing story. I hope that the kidney works out well for David.

I am speechless.

You never know when your last day is going to be. Tomorrow is never promised. Enjoy life. Life is too short to hold grudges or be angry......
