A Simple Question

I know i'm new here, well I thought I was, I just forgot about being a member for almost a year, anyways. I know some of you are on other sites, and I was wondering why the creator of this site did not implement a for sale/ trade section?

We've tried it and it never seems to really take off or some abuse it selling more than just some overage or old stuff they have laying around.

Yea, but I tend to find the same people selling on all the forums i'm part of, so i'm always seeing the same stuff. I now there are probably people that are dedicated to just this site.

I pretty much hang out here at DC mainly, and we have tried to have a swap meet forum on a couple of occasions. I think the main reason for it not working out was that someone, namely Troy, could be liable when someone gets "taken."

People take advantage of the swap meet forum just like they took advantage of vendor giveaways and things like the traveling detail bag from Autogeek. That's why we can't have those type things anymore...

Whatever happened to that anyway? I never signed up for it, and had forgotten about it truthfully. But as usual, you've piqued my curiosity.

Some schmuck decided to "help himself" to the contents before he shipped it on to the next person. As per Meghan.

It's not too surprising, to me anyway, considering the high volume "hit and run" freebie grabbers we had when vendors did giveaways. To clarify - what I mean is folks who visit every month, sign up for the giveaways (and never check to see if they won), and that be the only contribution they ever made to the board. No thank yous to the vendors, no review of the products won. That sort of thing. I imagine if I was a vendor that would stop me from doing giveaways too. I know that's a little off topic from the original thought of the thread, but some people are just lousy bums - and I think those same people could possibly scam in the swap meet thread. Too much liability for Troy.

EDIT: I was going to re-verify what i said about the traveling bag, but it appears several posts were edited out of the thread. At least I couldn't find the ones that mentioned the loser that stocked his shelves with the stuff and sent the empty bag on.

The number of people that used to visit solely to post for giveaways was unbelieveable.
We had people with absolutely no posts other than when they registered for a freebie.

Yeah, and then, when they won they never claimed their prize. I guess that took a little too much effort on their part - you know, to check back on the forum and all.

JP, I had no idea. The idea ("free" sampling of products) sure sounded nice. I guess there were too many variables to allow AG to file theft charges against the alleged perpetrator. Too bad. I didn't pay much attention to what was in the bag, but imagine that it easily added up to several hundred dollars which would up the level of criminal charges.

Not even the courtesy of a thank you, much less a review? I agree, as a vendor I would be just a bit disappointed.

CharlesW, I also wasn't aware of the sign up activity associated with free giveaways.

If I recall correctly, AG really loaded up the bags with a lot of product and even sent them out with a Flex in them. I could be wrong about that, but looking back on the thread, they appeared to be pretty loaded with a lot of top shelf products.

OK, I went over to the AG sub forum and found a picture of one of the traveling bags and it's contents. What a haul for the scofflaw! In one of the threads the names of potential suspects are still available for review. I don't know anyone listed, and of course if the act was premeditated they might have used an alias.

Agree, with this type of activity who needs the drama.
