A scion TC EXPLODING with flake *56K* eh

GOT PREP?
This car is very well taken care of, but needed a few minor issues addressed. The swirls were very minimal, in fact I can’t remember a car that I have detailed in the past year that had fewer swirls. The hood did have some acid rain damage that was too deep to safely remove, but I would have to show it to you under 500 watt halogens—even then you would have to be at the right angle. The only other areas of concern were a few chips that needed to be touched up, as well as few other areas that needed touch up paint.

Process was

Touch up areas of concern

Spot buff hood with Hi Temp extreme cut/ optimum polish to evaluate the acid rain etching

Optimum polish over the entire car with a green polishing pad (rotary 1200 RPM’s Meguiars polishing pad)

Optimum polish over the entire car with a SM Arnold finishing pad (PC speed6)

Z6 wipe down

3 coats of Z2 PRO

Z8

I did the interior to, but it wasn’t too bad, just vac, shampoo carpets and seats, wipe everything down, etc.

Probably too many pics, but the paint was so flaky—I love how this paint looks, pictures just do not do it justice.

Here are the chips that needed to be touched up:

This is a bit of marring from some sort of compound; it dulled the paint and left these marks:

Here is the touched up area. I first wiped it with alcohol, then prepsol to remove any foreign matter. I then applied 12 coats of touch up paint(over the course of about 3 hours) to “level it with the rest of the paint. I then wet sanded that area with 3000 grade unigrit paper, and then removed the marks with optimum polish.

Amazing job. If word gets out about your talent, the body shops are gonna have trouble staying in business.

Fantastic work man and yes that flake is insane!!

My g/f's tC has a big rock chip right near the same spot. I have the paint to touch it up but haven't done it yet. The spot has already started to rust. What should I remove the rust with before applying the touch up? Should I sand it down first with a pencil eraser and sandpaper then clean it with alcohol?

Gawjess!

I love that color, too! Have you found Z2 Pro to be a bit better for flake pop, too? It is my go-to for this need.

Thanks guys!!

Twitch, I would remove the rust first, but I am not sure--I would bet that accumulator would know????

Sean, for sure--it's just so wet and glossy--like extra clear. :D

tdekany, yep I as soon as I washed and dried I started layering the paint. I did this the entire time that I detailed the interior, I then buffed the entire car(stopping to layer paint about every 20 minutes or so), finished up the last coat of touch up, allowed it to dry, sanded, buffed, sealed car.

Does that make sense?

yes it does - thanks for the explanation.

BLING BLING!!! Awesome flake shot. I wish My gf got that color for her TC but I knew it would be hard to take care of her car for her, so I convinced her to get silver to make it easier for all of us! Great detail! What dressing was used on the engine plastics?

We have the same-color tC as one of our cars. My wife drives it. Yes, the flake in that paint is incredible! After every detail, I just want to stand around and stare at it.
