A rare find

Look out hear comes Jay Leno

well with only (according to the article) 17 being made, it would surprise me if he did look to bid on it.
I've read the car may fetch anywhere from 4-8 million dollars.

More curious as to who gets to prep it for the auction, bet you there will be plenty of detailers over in Europe who would love to get their hands on that one

I really enjoy stories like these...what a find for the family and what a sale price!

Will be interesting to follow this one and see what it sells for and to who....thanks for sharing Jay

:hmmm: Lets see how about Paul Dalton you thank

Paul Dalton did come to mind, but there are a number of really talented people over there. I hope that whoever does it posts the detail on one of the forums

Hmm... "found" by his relatives. So... none of his relatives bothered to visit with him to know of the car? Never helped him clean up or do yard work that may have required them to enter the garage? Sad.

^ That's exactly what I thought when I saw this. Now that there's stuff to claim, family comes out of the woodwork. It is sad, but there's likely more to it than that one would hope. Every family has its "demons" I guess.

Interesting that this article lists the British pound symbol and says Euro in the same sentence or did England give this symbol up when they adopted the Euro?

The Euro and the pound are 2 different things.
England didn't want to change from the British pound in the beginning be cause it was worth more than the Euro.
It would be the same thing as comparing the USD vs. the CD.
Know I would want that

You guys are making some assumptions about the car and the family without ever having read the real story. it's funny how rumors can start.

The truth of the matter is that the family did know of the car, in fact, the car was well known among a small group of collectors and Bugatti experts. The car was occasionally written about in specialized newsletters and in Automobile Quarterly. The good Dr. simply refused to sell it as he was always saying he would complete the restoration "one day."

The car was NOT detailed before the auction, just cleaned up! Many parts were off the car so they were reassembled and the vehicle was put back into running condition, that's it.

England didn't adopt the Euro. There are a couple of other European Union members who did the same thing. I think Ireland comes to mind. I want to say the reason being so that those countries could control their fiscal/monetary fluctuations and not be at the mercy of the EU. If I recall, the countires with a strong money did not adopt the Euro, although I could be wrong about that. However, you can use either the English Pound or the Euro when there. I'm no expert on the matter, just rattling off some stuff I remember from an international business class.

O.K., then it's just interesting the article used both in the same sentence. So... which did it actually go for?

I'm watching Chasing Classic Cars on Discovery and they just found/sold a 1938 Bugatti Type 57c Atalante coupe for 800k. Interesting car...
