A proper Wax test?

I was wondering, how big of a section one has to do in order to test a wax on black cars.



I was trying to see if I could tell the difference between AIO+NXT vs. Mother Cleaner Wax.



I had access to a faily new black car which stays outside most of the time and I thought I would try it on the trunk lid.



I did half with the Mother's and the other half with AIO+NXT. They both looked great and felt slick. I could not tell you if a side looked better than the other.



In that case, aside for longevity, can you come to the conclusion that the products are virtually the same if you have start with a great finish?
 
there is no standard, just do an area big enough for you to notice. Most people split their hood in half to test (do one wax on one side and the other on the other side)
 
My suggestion would be to do it in patches large enough for you to notice, or areas that are easily remembered (like along a crease in the hood for example).



I'd also like to point out that it's not uncommon for people to have difficulty telling the visual difference between products. It can depend on lighting, paint colour... even just your imagination, which is a big monkey wrench IMHO.

That somewhat the point I am making...why do you have to have a crease if the results are going to be obvious? It may be if the paint is in great shape, the product does not matter (again lets exclude durability for the sake of this point).



I just wonder what percentage of the folks and trained autopians would have been able to tell the difference between detail treatment on my trunklid that was 1/2 AIO+NXT and 1/2 Mother's Cleaner/carnuba wax?
