A new paint prep step!

You learn something new everyday. In one of the car forums I frequent, I found this gem.

The claybar should remove all of your old wax. I have also heard that once the car has been clayed you can then wash it and let it sit for 5 minutes with panteen pro-v 2 in 1 for dry and damaged hair. Yes the hair shampoo. The shampoo has extra vitamins in it. When you put in on your car your paint absorbs some of the vitamins that it has lost from the sun/dirt/ect. I got this from a great camaro forum not to long ago. I have seen multiple pictures from people who have claimed to have done it. Makes the paint look real good. I have never done it though and I dont think it will help with your swirls, but its worth a try.

I have never heard of this, ever. What are we missing out on? I wonder if PAC, Autogeek and I will be running to add Pantene to our offerings? :)

I have a real hard time understanding as to how vitamins would be "absorbed" into the clearcoat of a car. Vitamins become useful in the body since they are typically cofactors of enzymatic reactions in many functions of metabolism; trust me that the clearcoat has no use for vitamins. Although this is original and I have never heard of it you can chalk it up to the "detailing myths" category before even wasting the effort and six more dollars.

Why would your automobile need vitamins?

Scott did say the idea came from a Camaro forum, maybe those guys spent too much time breathing in exhaust fumes . . .

maybe the shampoo leaves behind some type of oily residue leaving the paint glossy like that of a glaze. and sicne glazes dont last for too long especially in the sun, they some how interpretted that into vitamins and shampoo...

Too much extra shampoo from their mullets!

Surely the vitamins can't do anything to help the cars finish...lol
But there might be other ingredients that might...oil's and conditioners?
Hair is basically collagen...none living material. If Pantene can make THAT soft, and shiny and slippery, maybe it can help the cars finish?
Or maybe I'm just blowing smoke out my ass...
I'll try an experiment on a section of my car with Pantene...
However, I'll dump it into an unmarked bottle before the neigbours see me adding 'full-body conditioning' to my ride...lol
And seeing as I have NO hair, maybe I'll get the GF to go buy the stuff :crazy

While we are on the topic of Myths! Ive heard of adding a spoon full of Vegitable or Olive oil to your washing bucket! How about that one!

I don't recall where I heard that .. but I beleive the direct quote said " a lot of concours detailrs use veg-oil or Olive oil to make the paint look deeper"

explain that one... I don't let forigen things touch my paint ... let alone beleive some guy who's car was full of swirls tell me how to wash a car!

After spending several minutes pondering this thread...all I can come up with is, Wow.

Some people have too much time on their hands! Where does the line get drawn? This is almost comical!

I agree with most of the others, vitamins will have nothing to do with the paint or clearcoat. I'm sure if you looked at a chemical analaysis of Pantene, you will find some type of shine enhancer. I could see how this may have 'some' enhancing benefit to a clearcoat, but absolutely no more than a QD type spray. I'd bet we have our own mini-series of "Myth Busters" on here and see some more posts with pics in this thread soon! :wow

How do you apply the Pantene? With a PC or by hand? Does Meg's #7 get applied by Orbitol or Pad?

Thanks for your help,

Brian

P.S. I Wash with GC and protein. Adds Muscle I have heard
