A Host of Winter Preps (lots o' pics)

This Silverado absolutely kicked my butt! The paint was harder than any Vette I've done...which is hard. I tried several combinations, and surprisingly, what worked best wasn't the "strongest" combo. I was able to remove about 75% of the defects. Overall, I was very frustrated and dejected with detailing after this one - maybe my toughest detail ever.

Exterior:

- wash with Zaino Z7 and Eurow sheepskin

- clay with Zaino Z18 and DP 4-in-1 as lube

- polish with PO106FF and polishing pad at 1700 rpm (this was the winning combo after 4 combinations)

- AIO with polishing pad via PC and speed 5

- sealed with Zaino Z5 Pro

- Zaino Z16 on tires and trim

Next up was a Civic. This thing was in great shape, and it was actually pretty enjoyable to work on, although it was 26 degrees with a 14 degree wind chill – burrrr.

Interior:

- vacuum thoroughly

- wipedown

Exterior:

- wash with Zaino Z7 and Eurow sheepskin

- clay with Zaino Z18 and DP 4-in-1 as lube

- AIO with polishing pad via PC at speed 5

- sealed with Zaino Z2 Pro

- Robbie's Nu-Glo on tires and trim

Great work Zane!

So what others did you try on the truck?

None of the combinations were too aggressive, but I didn't feel comfortable pushing much harder with this paint.

I tried:

XMT #3 with polishing pad at 1500 rpm

XMT #3 with light cutting pad at 1500 rpm & 1700 rpm

PO106FF with polishing pad at 1500 rpm & 1700 rpm

PO106FF with light cutting pad at 1500 rpm

For some reason, PO106FF with a polish pad at 1700 rpm gave me the best results.

I had some 3M Rubbing Compound I left at home. I think I need to try some Hi-Temp EC...

Great Job! You liar...you didn't seal with blodd, testonrone, and pledge....I saw you do the truck and I saw you use Zaino! You need to come to Dallas...you can make some money and we can wear you out!

You have an eye for detail Zane -absolutely stunning.

What a collection of eye candy.

That might hold me over for the winter (LOL).

All of them look amazing (and I know what a PITA it has been to work in the cold!) but that Honda! Wow! Amazing richness for what is normally a very boring color. :)

Great work! They all look stunning.

On those hard to detail gm paints I use a rotory with presta ultra cutting creme or chroma 1500 and every swirl comes out fast and the finish looks like glass too. This stuff work amazing wonders for hard gm paint. Body shop stores carry it. You should pick some up. It will kick a corvetts (any hard paint) behind. My 3 must have products are presta, 106ff, z-5.
