A hacked up VW Bettle and an extreme makeover on an Infiniti

GOT PREP?
First up is a VW Beetle that went into the body shop needing repair from an accident and came out looking like it had been washed with sandpaper—probably because it had been. I added the body shop to my ever growing list of places to avoid when recommending places.

After:

I polished with OHC and a green SM Arnold 6 pad @1500 RPM’s, then BF SRC FP @speed6 via PC with a white 5.5 low-profile pad, and then sealed with M21. Tires wear HD 1:1

Headlights were dull and hazy

Under the lightsWOW!!

Here are the afters. The owner was not interested in perfection, and to be honest, perfection was impossible. He wanted to make a daily driven betterIMO we achieved that.

HT EC/OP 50/50 @1500 with a Meguiars 6.5 polishing pad

BF SRC FP @speed 6 via pc with a white 5.5 LP pad

Sealed with M21

Tires wear all-season dressing (firestone tires do not like water-based products IME).

The interior was steamed (TR6)

Vacuumed

Shampooed/extracted (Mytee HP60)

Leather was dressed with Lexol

Headlights were sanded with multiple grits, then buffed.

Here’s a shot as I dried the carpets after shampooing/extracting them.

Oh, you wanted to see what came out of the carpets?

Joe, The bug's paint looked a bit on the extreme side as well.

Great job on both. :wow:

How effective is your carpet drying method using the shop-vac? I have a decent size 30" garage fan that I use, but I guess thats something that would take up more room in your rig.

That's actually the HP60 drying the carpets. The machine comes with the attachment that you see in the pic, along with a 25ft hose that connects to the vacuum motor. The motor blows heated air into the car to dry the carpets. It also comes with a difusser nozzle that can be attched and used for blowing out cracks and crevices. I *love* the machine....

Thanks guys!!

that's some turnaround! Great work man.

I do have one question, though (if you don't mind). How exactly did you buff the headlights after sanding them? I noticed they had those little "bumps" that I remember cars used to have... did you just use a small pad? Sorry I'm still learning about machine buffing!

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I used a 4" spot pad with a very small backing plate on the rotary. The bumps will tear up the pad, so I just keep one dedicated "headlight" pad. I do the areas around the bumps by hand. I used 3M PI-III RC after I sanded.

Now THAT'S work that I would truly categorize as professional! Unbelievable results and stunning turnarounds on both. The Infiniti looked wicked. The payoff is when the customer's return and are absolutely floored with what they see.

Awesome work! Great to see you back. Glad to see that you took the advice from the guys at Mobileworks on the TR6 and Mytee. Do you usually take that route with Hazed lamps?
