Cessna 182 Millenium Edition

funny story about how the owner got this one, he used to have one from the 70s but it had engine trouble inflight on a trip with his wife. She refused to fly with him again until he got a new one, so around 250K later here it is.

I hate high wings with a passion

All look very nice.

You guys be extra careful with those planes!

Ive been raised around planes my whole life. The A36 is my dad's and thats him in the picture.

Your photos bring back some great memories. I too was around planes a lot growing up. My Dad had a couple of 172's and then bought a Piper Archer II from a friend in Texas. A beautiful plane and looked great after washing and waxing. It sure can get warm in the hangers, that metal just heats up so nicely! Excellent work and thanks for sharing. :)

This is my dads 4th plane and probally his last unless he upgrades to a G35 (glass cockpit). Hes had a Pipper, Skipper and Siera. An A36 has been his dream for years. Some many memories flying with my dad. Last being a flight over to SC for the BMW driving school. Heres a pic from the ride back home.

Nice! What do you get for planes?

really depends. Its hard to tell, but the A36 is much bigger then 182, but is easier to clean because it is not a high wing. I normally offer 3 packages. Keep in mine I normally undercharge compared to other detailers on this board so you could probally get more. But a simple wash and wax job can get you up to $50-75/hr.

Standard Wash - 75-90 depending on the condition and size, includes debugging, wash, and cleaning of windows. Doesnt include the belly or under wings of low wing planes.

Wash and Wax - same as above, but with a wax, propeller and spinner treatment. 150-175

Delux Wash and Wax - Same as above with belly degreased, washed and waxed. Landing gear compartments cleaned. Heavey duty window cleaner/polish (most aircraft windows are plastic and scratched easily). I also offer it with a 2 step paint treatment with AIO. This one I normally dont have a set price but runs between $250-350. Not many people pay for it except my dad since he loves to keep his plane clean (cleanest at the airport) or people selling theirs.

For most I dont do interiors, but it is offered. And here is why I hate interiors of some planes more then any car I have ever found.

the leather folds over itself on purpose and its a pain in my butt to clean. Took me nearly an hour to clean just the back seats.

nice job. you gotta be careful about planes, the guy across the street from me owns a cessna, i'm not exactly sure which model etc, but it is newer, i think it's from 03. he had it garaged and some guys were repainting the ceiling of the hanger...those idiots didn't put down anything over the planes, didn't move them, and didn't notify the owners to move them.

needless to say, but a thin misted coat of white paint appeared on all of the planes. he had an estimate of damage done by his insurance company and by the insurance company of the hanger, both came up with around $40k in damage done to the plane. i'm not sure what the owner of the hanger did to the paint company, but the owners insurance paid for my neighbors repair job.

he told me that planes are very sensitive to something like this, that they will not fly right with the added layer. it took a few weeks of being in a shop, where the essentially just buffed off all the extra paint. seems like something claybar would do, but i guess planes are different. i gotta ask him more about that.

good stuff beason i got a question for you. do you think collinite 920 would make for a good cleaning product on planes like that or have you ever used it? ive been using it on my dads fifth wheel and my buddies walkabout so i wondered if it was something different about a plane that would make it a bad way to go.

I like the A36... I just got my high performance/complex rating in one very similar last week. As far as the detailing goes, the price at my airport (Clean Air Detailing) starts at $80 for a wash and wax and $250 for a full detail of a 2 seater (150/152, Husky, Cub) and $100/$300 for a wash and wax/full detail for a 4 seater (172, Warrior, Archer). It just goes up and up from there...

As far as the products go, I use Collinite 970 on our rental fleet with decent results, and a new product "DRIVEN" which has been much better about brightening up the paintwork. Just a note: be VERY careful about cleaning the glass on any plane! It scratches and swirls amazingly easy and costs $$$$ to replace.

Ill take picturtes of comparing the windows of the A36 verse that of some other's at the airport. You will notice that the A36 has incredible clarity due to the great care I and my dad have invested in them. Have special cleaner and polish just for the windows as to not scratch them and to buff away any scratches. Over time they look almost brand new.

Ah yes, the G35's are beautiful. Your Dad has had some nice aircraft. My dad always loved Mooney's but never owned one. We always though of them as the sports cars of the air. How was your trip to the BMW driving school? Did you post your experience there at all? :)

It was awesome and I tried but it didnt allow me to post more then 17 images at a time and I had close to 200. I got locked out of posting for a week after trying. I might give it another try later.

Any idea what the special polish is? One of our Citation V's just had its interior windows done 2 months ago (Over $10k worth) and already they're starting to swirl and scratch. We're not there on the flight to slap the kids/parents/buisnessmans hand who "cleans" them with a paper napkin midflight, so all we can really do is grin and bear it. I haven't wanted to try any random polishes just in case I make the problem worse and am responsible for the next refurbishing.

Thanks! :spot
